zealot's oath.... what is the point?

im leveling a templar, and quite honestly, i dont see any point in getting any of the "big passives" but 1 in particular sais why the hell would ANYBODY get that? and that is zealot's oath.... what is the point of replacing health regen with shield regen.... isnt it basically the same thing?
Not at all. They are two very different things. For example. If one were to take chaos innoculation. He would have no need for life regen. If he then takes zealots oath. All that wasted life regen now applies to his energy shield.
The answer is 42.

Using Chaos Inoculation would be one answer.

Also, your energy shield does not replenish if you are taking damage over time (burning status ailment, chaos damage, degeneration effects). This counteracts that.

Play more with a build using energy shield and the benefits will probably become apparent.

maybe i am not understanding how this works.

in your 2nd example... why does having an energy shield matter? you have 5 health per second. youre getting burned... what does changing that 5 health per second into 5 shield per second actually do? it seems like the same thing to me...

also, is there such a thing as a good build without the "big passives"? im looking at them all, and i really dont see why i would get 1 on my templar, i basically plan to make him a tanky mage.

Because there are limited ways to "heal" energy shield, this gives another way.

Your health is like health in other ARPGs: you can easily replenish it from potions, regeneration, life steal, et.al. Energy shield is like the energy shield that the Master Chief has on the Halo series: it absorbs X amount of damage and then is unavailable until you have had a short period during which you take no damage. If your build hinges on a strong energy shield, the ability to replenish your energy shield without having to drop back and escape your assailants momentarily gives you more options tactically. My advice would be to just play with energy shield and you will see what I am talking about.

Totally. I have had successful builds that used no Passive Keystones.

Its more of a "witch" keystone IMO anyway.

But yes, it works with CI very well. I plan to grab 3 main keystones for my witch. CI, Zealots Oath, and Minion Instability :)
Really, how about people take a few days to put 1% effort into gathering information from what is already provided, and refrain from vomiting trollbait out the arse on a public forum?
I'd like to say there's "one too many" threads like this, but sadly there's a hundred too many.

I opened the skill planner page and exercised English, learned what everything is.
I'm getting it for my Shadow by the way, knowing full better than the OP that not every damn thing someone hastily doubts is stupid or a waste. /emotion

"why the hell would ANYBODY get that?" This makes me feel violent.

jesus is it that time of the month for you? i've looked on these forums for answers and i havnt found an answer to EVERY DAMN THING, believe it or not.

i explain THAT I AM NOT SURE WHY ANYBODY WOULD GET THAT. BECAUSE OF MY LACK OF UNDERSTANDING. so i made this topic so people could explain it to me. I DID NOT make this topic to say "so and so is garbage, replace it please".

like jesus fucking christ, just calm down there guy.
CI basically gives you chaos immunity (Chaos deals a shitload of damage), but of course there's a cost, you're life permanently stays at 1, so to be able to get CI to work, you will then stack Energy Shield since you basically have no HP. Since you basically have no HP to regen, Zealot's Oath will then apply regen to ES instead of HP. Zealot's Oath IMO is made to synergize with CI.
