Isn't this just a Minotaur? Or a Satyr?

I think "Goat Man" is a pretty lousy name, especially considering that the other monsters seem somewhat more developed.

Minotaurs are half-man half-bull or ox, and Satyrs look slightly more "human" than this creature. Also, there are several "Goat Men" in mythology, one such being is Pan.

The idea that satyr had goatheads is a very modern one. Back in ancient greek myth satyr had mule or horse heads and a chronic erection. Prefer goat man, at least I do.

Cool concept, just maybe create a different name. Otherwise, really cool! I hope there will be minotaurs in this game too.

Yup... chronic erection, thats the major differenc between satyr and here mentioned Goat Man :D... pretty damn good :D

The idea of goat headed men/goat demons is derived from a conception of Baphomet popularized by Eliphas Levi's 19th century drawing. Any relation to the Minotaur or satyrs is likely indirect through the effect they may have had on Levi's art.

I think this creature is pretty cool. The name is a little non plussing, but it isn't bad.

Since everyone is dogging the devs about the name, why not toss out a couple concepts for them.


Something like

Cloven Mishap, or Juvenile Ghontare

I think the name "Goat Man" makes perfect sense. This is an island of convicts and ship-wreck victims. They aren't gonna sit around debating the perfect name of that thing that just tried to murder them. They'll say, "Holy crap, it's a *&%$(# goat-man! The goat-man tried to kill me! Quick, kill the goat man! Kill the goat man!!"

Sounds perfectly logical to me.
