Pseudo vs. Entropy : Advanced Mechanics
Upon researching an evasion & dodge build, I came across this: "The Chance to Dodge is a pseudo-random roll made per attack, and not entropy-based like Evasion," on Wiki's Dodge page.
I said..well wt*? So I began researching these words "pseudo" and "entropy" to find out how they applied to PoE's mechanics:

So, I'm here because I still don't quite understand it. Could they be simply expressed as: We can take evasion, and I don't want to get too deep into how it is calculated, but let's generalize: -Pseudo will do exactly what the % says. Meaning after accuracy is checked against evasion, let's say there is a 25% chance to hit. So you will be hit by every fourth attack, period. -Entropy will be truly random. If you have a 25% chance to dodge, your dodge roll could fail 20 times in a row, or succeed 20 times in a row (theoretically, i know the probability is unlikely...) I use "probability" in the above. I guess, is that really what we're talking about here? Pseudo or Fake probability, versus Entropy or Real probability? Edit: Thank you for your feedback :) Edit: I went into Cruel ledge (mLvl 37) with my level 83 character. She has an evasion rating of 1254 and a chance to evade of 16%. I have to assume this 16% maybe applies to monsters of my level, and wouldn't be the same against a mLvl 37. Okay... So in the ledge, I cleared out a large area and isolated one skeleton (poor little test subject skellie). I tallied "H" for Hit and "M" for Miss. This is my data results before my low thorns actually killed him. But it is not a definitive pattern:
Spoiler
Here, I have put a line break in the data to more easily identify patterns in a column-like view. I also bolded the most identifiable piece of the pattern which is "MMM". FYI - the "B"s are for blocks and should be considered H's. HM HMHMHMHMMM HMHMHMHMMM HMHMHMHMHMHMHMHMHMHMHMHM HMMHMHMHMMM BMHMHMHMMMHMH You can see that the data does not show a regular pattern. For example, if the Pseudo hit chance was 25%, we would see MMMHMMMHMMMHMMMH If it was 50% we would see MHMHMHMHMH NOW! if it was 46% chance to it, (100/46= 2.17391304...) it would hit every 2.1739... times. Okay so we would need a long stream of data to show that probability, due to the decimal an irregularity, so maybe that explains the irregularity in the above? If so, I find it difficult to understand why there are groupings of 3 M's, in a close to 50% hit ratio data stream. Wouldn't, maybe 2 M's, be more accurate? Evade is mostly fake probability, if you have 25% chance to be hit that means every 4th attack will hit you, no ifs or buts. However, if you haven't been attacked for at least 6 seconds, the first strike you receive will be truly random. So, if you've seen someone claim that it's kinda both at the same time that's what he meant
Dodge and block are true randomness, though, you can dodge/block ten times in a row or be missed ten times in a row. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" That's awesome. Thanks. "Closed" and "Open" beta supporter. I think I can take your word on that. Although, I do welcome additional feedback here, as I think the topic is an interesting one. Thanks. |

" AFAIK, he's correct. My personal experiences is similar. I only play evasion builds. |

Here you have some detailed info 'how entropy system works':
