Twinking is the norm?

My basis is that I rely too much on good gear to get me through, until it becomes a numbers game.
Is this the idea of path of exile? or are we farming for gear to play out our theory-craft. I wonder if there is a way to 'burn out' in path of exile.

I'd like to know what you do or what you think of the idea.


I also challenge everyone to play 1 character who is not twinked at all if they don't do so.
Maybe one for every character.

1 play through, every difficulty, not going back to farm.
Hardcore is optional :)

I think part of the battle EARLY on is just learning what type of stats you should be looking for early on.

If I go back and look at my passives and my gear on my first witch I just laugh at how HORRIBLE everything is.

On the other hand my hardcore witch that had no stash or other toons to get freebies from has some rocking good gear and passives - mostly because now I KNOW what to pick up and what would potentially be good for "Crafting"

Dude you're playing a Diablo-esque ARPG, it's all about the twinking.

These types of games are basically competitive twinking games.

It really depends for me. Sometimes I want to do a "self found" character others I want to twink. Some great builds in POE require you to twink. Just the act of giving your character a skill gem is twinking albiet at a minor level.

In a week or so everybody will play a non-twink character.

I guess I am playing the devils advocate by saying I 'slightly' disagree.

There are droves of players who already plan to build a farmer just to hit say level 7-8 grab some quest gems & some basic gear to twink out the character they ACTUALLY plan on playing.

That way they have all the low level gems they need the moment they start.

There's nothing wrong with this.

At any rate, when I test builds. Even if I do have the currency/items/etc I usually will start from scratch. Separate a few tabs and only use the currency and items I find so I can properly test the most raw form of progression while leveling with the build. RNG is obviously a factor in this, though.

It depends on what you refer to as "twinking". I don't see farming with a level 7-8 character to gear an alt to play-through as twinking. I think of twinking as finding the best possible gear for a character that is going to stay at a lower level permanently. I.e level 20 max, or 30 max, and gearing them as best as possible.

Creating LLD (low-level-duelers) in Diablo was my idea of twinking. I farmed for months in nightmare on an MF character just to find some awesome gear to make a 45 capped necromancer, and dueling on him was some of the most fun I had while playing Diablo 2.

Well, this game is about making builds.

Some builds HAVE to be twinked, because otherwise I wouldn't have any of my major attack skills with my wand dual wielding duelist.
The other thing is that the gear comes in so many variations, that sometimes the gear itself inspires you to make another build that could use it's rare mods.
The most extreme case of this would be "Build enabling Uniques" like the Facebreaker gloves, that greatly increse unarmed damaged, and basically require you to build a new character around it.

So basically, this is a game about twinking, BECAUSE it is about making builds.

i twink. Its part of the fun. IN fact if I cant' twink I will play a different game where I can.

I dont make it a numbers game..I dont care if my build is the best or greatest or anything like that. but I have fun having low levels in good gear.
