Gem Drops

After combing through the threads for a few days, I hadn't seen anything to answer my question. Are there certain gems that only drop in certain areas? Is every gem able to drop somewhere in the game? For example, where would you farm for Clarity for a Templar? Would you need to wait until the quest that rewards it is completed to be able to see it drop? Or is it all random and any gem could drop at any time in any difficulty?

A lot of the gems I have seen drop multiple times I recall dropping throughout random areas of act 1 and 2. I can't recall running into any gems in specific areas..

I would assume they're global drops with a random chance but maybe someone from GGG will enlighten us.

I'd like to know about that aswell, I have already decided which gems I'm gonna go with. Now the question is - do I have to level a marauder up until the point of me getting these certain gems from a quest or will they have a chance of dropping randomly? (Life leech, physical weapon damage, are the ones in this case)

I have been looking for this information too. Are gem drops limited by act, difficulty, monster level etc?

I haven't been able to find any information on this.

I think gem drops are based on the base level of the gem and the level of the area you are in.

So is not going to drop in a level 5 zone - but any zone that is level 10 and above has a chance to drop it (I got this one off of Brutus normal)
