What about the storyline?

I could not find anything about the storyline. The areas, special effects, dark atmosphere etc. all are impressive. Innovative ideas with much more bloody battles are exciting. However a good storyline is a must for a RPG of any kind.
We all know about World of Warcraft. I never liked its gameplay. But the storyline is perfect. I think that's one of the major reasons why it has so many players worldwide. I really want to know some about PoE's story. Why is it called Path of Exile? Do we have to choose among paths? Why do we fight for? An ultimate evil boss overpowering the good? Can we also smash good? I appreciate your work. Surprise us with an outstanding story :) |

For example Diablo 1 has books inside dungeons explaining the past. Even if you just go down 16 levels and kill Diablo, you knew there is a huge story in it.
btw I liked monster's stories. They are nice. Seems unnecessary for powerplayers but this gives life to monsters. Killing them will be more exciting :) |

reading pages like this, im quite convinced the story will be there in game
http://www.pathofexile.com/areas/ essentially your exiled for using magic's if i remember rightly, so you get banished to this hell hole. meeting various other exiles will no doubt have some story elements involved in it. the 2nd act certainly sounds promising in a story sense i was sure there was somewhere or some post giving a little brief but i cant find it anywhere |

Little stories about monsters and areas are so far nice. This is kind of a proof that GGG cares about story and lore.
I still wonder which staff member is responsible for the game world, lore and story. There's no mention of this in the staff page at the official GGG site. He who fights with monsters
might take care lest he thereby become a monster. |

It was mentioned that the story would be a little more personal and not saving the world. I'm personally looking forward to discovering the secrets of Wraeclast's past.

In the Duelist trailer video, there's already an interesting story is about to unfold :) And I'm sure as we go deeper and deeper in the continent, there will be more and more revealed about the circumstances and the evil masterminds behind the whole thing.

All rpgs of this type have a storyline, someone here metioned on Diablo 1 and those pages with pieces of the storyline,I always hated that on Diablo ,seriously, what a boring way to tell a story when the game by itself already flat, don't make this game like that plz and don't get me wrong I liked the dark type of game and skill animations,it's good, but this will not be enought if we all want a long term game, games like this must have at least a good storyline or fantasy story properly presented and showed that could catch our interest and imagination and I'm not talking about comercial aspects ,I'm talking about in-game aspects...I saw the game skills tree another day, was cool, reminds me of Final fantasy X,that was fine actualy I found that cool enought, but final fantasy knew how to present us with a good story (well not these last FFs anyway,but... :P) my point is if is a rpg game it has to come with a good story ,if's not, it's just another nosence and weak hack and slash game.

Story Arches for fantasy computer games are often expected to reveal plots and power structures of epic proportions.
Jealousy of the gods, wars to rule the whole world, the universe's most vile menace incarnate. GGG is wise to hesitate in committing to a full fantasy story arch right away. And also i wouldn't blame them if they chose to never develop an overwhelmingly grandiose epic story. Not only are stories of this kind over done (and often badly), but also, the power of an epic game story can restrict the game play to only fulfilling the heroic duties presented by this story. Worse yet, the completion of an epic story in defeating the prime evil can remove the explanation for your character continuing the game. Does our character want to return to the land they were exiled from??? Whats keeping them on this island??? is it a hex cast by the big island boss? Okay lets go destroy the big island boss and get off this island. Okay we did it we're going now. good game, it was fun, its over now. and it really is over, because the character's motive is complete, and has removed himself from the game. even if the player still wants to hack stuff. for every game problem epic stories create, there are remedies, that also create new problems. Story is a volatile substance best used with caution, it can seem pretty innocent at first, but can quickly spiral into game ending ultimatums, where the character's motives and the player's motives divide. +1 my post if you like it.
