PauseButton/AutoPause

Suggestion:
Add a pause button (with pause hotkey) to the game that will pause the whole instance of a zone. The game will automatically pause the instance if the player alt-tab out for any reason and if the player have some internet delay.

More Details:
A player can pause an instance even if there are other players in there. Other players have an option of "kick out of instance" after 30 seconds of pause time. Only the "pauser" can unpause. Kicked players will teleport to the nearest town with no penalty.
Alt-tab out will function 100% like hitting the pause button.
Internet delay from a player will function 100% like hitting the pause button, except unpausing occurs automatically.

Justification:
With this pause function, death by desync will be completely eliminated. Pee break while playing? No problem! See, i just saved countless of players from kidney stones. You're welcome.
I know PoE is a mutliplayer MMO, but let's face it, 80% of your play time is alone (unless I am the only loner in PoE??). A pause button in a single player game is a no brainer. Not to mention... no more death undeserved!

There shouldn't even be a desync fest. Most of the time desync happens once in 5 mins. I cannot imagine your hypothetical situation to ever be real.

There is something in this that I agree with, but I do not think a pause button is the way to go in an online game.

I'd much rather see a function, with a cooldown even, to hotkey an instant teleport to town. Sometimes something happens at home, and if I'm in the middle of a fight, I don't really have the time to disengage from battle, drop a portal, and click on it to get to safety in a hurry.

Given how people who absolutely do not want to die, will use alt-f4 or esc+logout to avoid death, I don't see there being an issue with people using this to avoid death by their own stupidity.

Perhaps a cast on a delay, say 3 seconds, allowing you to cast it, and start running, or if you are relatively safe, you can cast it and go afk, knowing you will be moved to town anyway. You now have 8 minutes to do whatever it is you need to do and return to the map.

Pause button is not about getting out of death for free. Pause button is about saving your ass when your stupid computer alt-tab you out of a game for an update or low battery. I died to alt-tab before. I died to desync before.

Pausing is about making the game fair. No more death undeserved.
