Confused. Attack speed/cast speed

Attack speed = only on your regular (not a gem/spell) attack?
Cast speed = only when you use a gem/spell? The way I see it is cast speed effects blue/intelligence gems/spells only. Attack speed effects green/dexterity & red/strength gems/spells only. But for some reason I feel I'm wrong. I feel attack speed only effects your regular (non-gem) attack. And cast speed effects all gem/spell attacks. Attack speed affect any weapon based attack be it regular or skill.
Cast speed only affects skills labeled as spells in their tag list. Beyond_Bow_BobMKIII Level 80 Tornado Shot Scion

It also helps to recall that EVERYTHING is a "Skill Gem" or a "Support Gem"....Skill Gems are either Attack Gems, or Spell Gems. Cast Speed is for Spell Gems, Attack Speed is for Attack Gems.
