How to value items in terms of currency?
so there are some people that have created tables showing relative values of PoE's different currencies in comparison to each other which is great to look at just to get a rough idea, but what I struggle with is how to value an item in terms of sockets, item level, and mods
for example, I have a variety of 6S items, but all with 4L or less so it has some value because of the 6S but isn't amazing since it will likely require a large Fusing investment to attempt to get 5L+ then additional orb investment to roll good mods and then, item level and potential mods that can be rolled on the 6S item will also influence value to add on to that, how valuable are 4S/L items that max at 4? the potential to find these as drops is a lot more likely than 6S, but creating them can potentially still require quite an investment of fusings/jewellers. another example, are affix rolls on items how good is a tri-elemental weapon if it doesn't also roll attack speed, elemental damage, and/or leech? there are many different viable builds in PoE, so some item that might not seem that attractive might actually be a great fit for a particular build one other thing are currencies that tend to serve as a base for most trades GCP looks to be a very popular choice for high value items. for trades below 1 GCP value though, things become less standard and more muddled based off of seller preference. D2 had different tiers of currency in terms of HR, MR, Pul, LR, PGems, and even gold. I'm guessing GCP can be considered to be serving a similar role as HRs in D2, but does PoE have a similar currency tier system below GCP? I mentioned that some people have created tables showing relative values of currency items in comparison to each other, but I wonder if people actually adhere to that. Thanks for any input. just trying to get a better feel for things before OB releases. |

" I don't really know enough about trade values to even attempt to answer the first couple questions but as for these... Below GCP, I'd say alchemy orbs seem to be the most popular currency. An alchemy orb will probably be enough to get you MOST non-quality skill gems, decent low-level gear etc. A lot of people will probably consider anything much lower than this to not be worth the time to trade for, except in bulk or if they specifically need something. As for currency tables, I would say most people generally follow them(or to be more exact, people come to a consensus on what the values are and then the tables are made from that) but it is also important to remember that most of these values will change over time and even if people generally agree on a certain value, there will always be someone willing to pay more for something they particularly need. Also note that the npc vendor recipes WILL set at least some limits on the values of items. |

I think at some point someone will crunch the numbers and will figure out a usage ratio. So let's say it takes 15 orb of fusings on average to link a 4s item. If you can sell it for 15 fusings that would be a fair value. You'd need a rather large sample size though since it can be rather random but it would give a good estimate.
