How many characters can you make on one account?

What is the maximum number of characters for new accounts, without buying extra character slots? How many alts can you have? (Trying to phrase the question several ways, to help any future players searching the forums for this info... hoping I will get a useful and definitive answer from somebody.)

I've searched the FAQs and forum threads without finding this simple question asked, let alone answered.

The store sells extra character slots as an account modification, but do they bother to tell you how many characters you can make without buying extra slots? No! Nor do they tell you if there is any limit to how many extra character slots you can add to a single account.

What with the race events going on, I'm worried that I'll reach the max, and not be able to create a new character for an event without deleting some existing characters.

Also, is the maximum number of characters, whatever that number is, is it per server? Or is it per server and league? If that turns out to be the case, what would happen if a hardcore character died, but you already had the max number of characters in the standard league?

It's 24.

Think its about 25 (account wide).

In other words, not enough! :P

You're also free to just delete that race character once the race is over.

Yea, it's pretty considerable. But the MTX for extra slots is there if people can't be bothered to create mule accounts.

Thanks one and all for the helpful answers. I had asked days ago in global chat, and somebody said 25, but from the way I had phrased the question I wasn't really sure they meant that was the initial max without buying extras, or if that was the most you could get to with the purchase of extra character slots.

That really is nice of them to offer so many to begin with, but when you consider the different leagues, regional realms/servers, and the need for an occasional race event... it is nice to have the freedom to so easily experiment with different classes and builds.

What if the character was a race character and now is in "The Void League" and is greyed out... does it count toward's the number or not?

Because I'm assuming that he will be chillin' there until race season is over or I find a way to delete him completely...
