Some Questions About PoE CBT Support

Hey Guys (and Gals),

I have some questions pertaining to the Closed Beta Testing Supporter pre-purchase packages of Path of Exile as well as the game itself. I would be very appreciative if anyone could either answer the questions to the best of their abilities or perhaps point me in the right direction as to where I could find my answers.

First and foremost, I am extremely interested in becoming a supporter for Path of Exile but I am not sure if I will be able to run the game, not specs wise but latency wise. I know that broadband is preferred as well as an internet connection in general is required to play, but I was wondering if I would be able to still play the game using a satellite connection. I currently play Diablo III with said connection, though my ping can sometimes be astronomically high at peak hours, without disconnecting so I was wondering if I may be able to play Path of Exile under the same circumstances.

Another question I had was about the client size (pre-install) with all of the current patches. Could anyone tell me what the current client download size is? I think I read somewhere it is around 3.6GB but I would just like to verify it. Does the client come with a pause / resume function in case the download times out so I wouldnt have to start all over again in case of a disconnection?

Lastly, I would just like to know if Supporter 'ranks' can be upgraded down the road? For instance if I would just like to pay the 10.00$ for a CBT key, can I down the road upgrade to the Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Diamond tiers and keep my same account and character or would I have to use the new key on a new account?

Thank you for your time.

James
Net connection can be a problem. I will leave this for others to answer.

The game should be more than 5 GB of downloading.

If you buy bronze, then later decide to buy silver, you do "upgrade" to silver. But to the best of my knowledge, you still have to pay full price for silver even if you have bought lower packs.
1. I honestly cannot tell you about latency. Technically, POE runs very well with high ping (compare LoL to POE -- in LoL, if you have 400 ping, shit gets whacky, you just start jumping all over the screen, your character won't move when you tell him to, etc. POE can still be played with high ping, but yes, some issues do arise as a result). The best answer I can say is - right now, everyone occasionally gets a lag spike or two. The US servers are in Texas, SEA in Singapore, EU in a Germany I think? I don't recall for EU. But if you're living near to one of those places, you have a very high likelyhood of having a great connection with few hiccups. If you don't, expect a little lag sometimes, though how this lag represents itself in the game can vary and I do consider POE to be fairly playable even under terrible conditions. Satellite internet though... it's tough to say. I have no idea.

2. On my disk, it's 5.0~ GB installed. The patcher does resume, though it will reset to 0% (I think) - don't worry - the patcher just isn't programmed to "remember" where it was interrupted so it always starts at a 0 (or at least, it used to, someone at GGG may have changed it recently to store that data) but it's always resuming and stores all the data is has already downloaded.

3. Supporter packs can be upgraded at any time before the 23rd, but that's it. The packs go away after that - though GGG has commented they will offer some new package style deals after the 23rd, I'm not sure if they will be directly compatible with upgrading from an existing supporter pack though, I suspect not.

My suggestions are to post your computer's specs, if you want to hear whether it can run on your rig or not. If your rig isn't that great, I would say... don't spend any money. I mean, GGG is great about refunds, you might be able to talk to Support about trying the game before you buy, but really, just wait until the 23rd if you're unsure, it'll be F2P so you can test it on your connection/rig then. Technically, the only thing you'll miss out by doing so is kiwis, a box/pre-order bundles, and some playtime during the holidays.

Thanks for the reply guys. The reason I wanted to know was so I could get a physical copy of the game. Sometimes it takes forever for me to download things so I wanted to get a physical version of the game and just be done with it, you know what I mean? Plus I wanted the Kiwi as well and to express my interest in the game before it launches.

What can/do the pets do anyway? Are they just cosmetic or do they have abilities / stashes? Can they pick items up like Torchlight?
I don't have a pet myself, but as far as I know, they are purely cosmetic.

If you buy a physical copy of the game, consider that the shipment might get delayed. You can, instead, download the game way before January 23rd and download a small patch on 23rd once the game goes Open Beta.

You just pay the difference; I went from bronze to silver and it just cost the additional $50. So if I was to upgrade to Gold right now, it would cost me $150 instead of $250, since I've already paid $100. If that makes any sense...

I play just fine using my phone as a hotspot, if that says anything. Lol.

If I lived in a location that could get 3G / 4G I would have gotten a hotspot as well, but I live WAY out there...so unfortunately for me its either satellite or dial-up.

Ah, right.

Well, I've never used satellite but if my hotspot runs it just fine you should have no problems. (I think.)
Not sure if anyone would happen to have a Key that theyre not using that I could use to test it out before I bought a pre-purchase? I would be much obliged. Thank you for your consideration.
