How do socket links work?
Hi guys,
i've been trying to figure this out for a while now, as i'm confused as to how socket-links actually work. I searched the forums and the wiki, and the info there is kinda unclear. So i know sockets linked to eachother allow skills to gain buffs/skill alterations from support gems.. but here's what i'm unclear about. Do the support gems have to be in a socket right next to the skill you wish to 'upgrade', or does is have to be in any socket that's connected to the skill by a link to another socket? Let's take a 5-link for example.. if i place the skill in the top right socket, do only the support gems to the left and bottom support it, or do all gems in the other sockets provide their benefits as well if it's the only skill in the item? I'm sorry if this has been asked to death, but i couldn't find any clear info about it, and as i'm not really a pro at the game yet, i would like to gather all the info i can. :) (Watching Kripp and Willy only gets me so far.. :P) |

" As long as the sockets are connected, supports will work. If you have a 6 link item you can put your skill in the 1st socket and the support in the last socket and it will work. “Demons run when a good man goes to war" Last edited by Sneakypaw#3052 on Nov 17, 2013, 4:26:57 PM

" Thanks for the quick reply! Sweet, that'll make using support gems a lot more appealing to me, because i thought it was only the adjacent sockets. :D |

Does anyone know if you can stack support sockets? Example: Found 2 support sockets that up minion life and I have them both linked to raise zombie.

" Nope, two of the same supports linked to the same skill don't stack. twitch.tv/enkivt

Adding on to that, only the higher level gem is used if you are trying to stack supports. The other just sits there gaining EXP but not actually used.

One semi-exception to the rule, you CAN stack Lesser Multiple Projectiles and Greater Multiple Projectiles.

" Not really an exception, as LMP and GMP are completely separate support gems. Sure, they basically do the same thing (with GMP being a more extreme version of LMP), but because they are two separate support gems with different names, they're following the exact same rules as all the other support gems. |
