Increased Critical Damage Reqs not met

I have the support gem, Increased Critical Damage equipped in a sword on my Duelist.
I was able to level up the gem even though I didn't meet the Intelligence requirements.
The gem is equipped and now I have leveled it up twice to level 3, which reqs 33 Int.
My intelligence is currently at 25, 3 points short on the reqs for level 2 gem.
I had no items equipped which gave me an Int bonus.

Even though I don't meet the reqs for the gem, my sword has not turned red, I am still able to use the item and attack with it. I can still use the Cleave skill which is being supported by Increased Critical Damage, and the mana cost is consistent with the multiplier on the support gem.

AFAIK this is not the way the item is supposed to work, when a gem is equipped and you don't meet requirements.

Would you happen to be wearing a unique Paua amulet that reduces attribute requirements?
