Gem simulator - Forum based software idea
|
I don't know if this idea has been up before, could not find any after a brief search.
Also, not sure if this is the correct forum thread, but could not find any better place for forum-related suggestions :) Anyhow, my idea was to build an gem simulator, just like the skill tree simulator where you can add and see how you can build your tree before starting the build. The software would be something like an virtual version of the inventory, but you can rightclick on an arrow next to each section to choose - 1h, 2h, mace, bow etc etc in weapon slots, and just armor, glove, hat, shoe.. just plain basic ones, no details needed. Thereafter, you choose amount of sockets, and also link set-ups. (If you want 5L or 3L+2L or "2L times 3".. you get my point (on armor i.e) Then, you can add from a droplist, ALL exsisting gems, (skills, curses, spells, aruas and trigger. Might have forgotten someone). All will be in level 1 just to make it a bit more difficult, or you can rightclick and choose level and quallity, either way works good I think.. Last out, there is the "skill-section" that shows which active gems you have as shortcuts, showing the proper stats they are being given from the links. When you right click on of them, they will show an animated, basic level 1 performing the skill so that you can see it's visuall effects as well. Maybe also add in "skill doing crit" and "skill-death" as options (for totems i.e) and of course "skill-activation" for traps. All skills are being based on white itemlevel 1 gear without modifiers, so that you have to think of that as well. By using this software, you can actually test out different skillgem-setups without even having the gem purchased yet. See what happens when you put for instance totems with cast spell on death, linked to whatever you feel like. Cold snap maybe. See the effect and therefore know if it's a possible linking or not. Or am I totally lost in space? :) Feedback and critics are okay, just giving air to my idea I had last night. Overkill is underrated.

In my opinion this only makes sense when combined with the passive tree simulator, you thinking about slots and links its not a big deal, but this idea can be really good to have an idea how much damage you will have (and there it would be great to have an option to determine the level and quality of the gems)

" My thought of it was to separate them, just to be able to pre-build your gem-setups before you even start your build. Being able to scroll down a list of all curses, may actually give you ideas of stronger solutions than you could on your own, especially for all the not so experienced players, like me. I know the basics, but there are tons of gems that I don't even know about yet. This software would be assisting me in building, gain more experience in what is possible, and teach me which gems are out there. Just like the tree does. You can read and plan ahead because you know what's out there. But yes, you could actually connect it to the passive tree and gain more accurate stats from it. And then maybe also connect it to a certain player. But I think that's almost too easy. If you only can plan ahead, what socket-colors needed, and which gems that need to be acquired, you still need to calculate the rest. But connection to passive could actually be interesting as well Overkill is underrated. Last edited by Nozzlo#5786 on Nov 12, 2013, 8:45:03 AM

" you know that's already covered by the wiki http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Skills#Active_Skills but its an external wiki, so making an own one would be better |

" I didn't know this existed. But yeah. Their own would be great :) Overkill is underrated.
