Lightbane Raiment - what's it good for?

I wasn't sure if this thread should go here or in items showcase, but since it is a question I figured I'd post here.

I don't understand what the good of this item is:

- 135% Increased Armor and ES is of course find but not enough for a unique item. And it seems to make the item focused on characters with CI.
- 10% Phys converted to Chaos damage seems like a malus, as that means less phys to penetrate armor, so you'd actually need a negative Chaos res on the mob for this to add anything. But I am most likely missing something here.
- Reflect 30 chaos dam and 50% chance to create desecrated ground seems to make it focused on melee characters (which is then contradictory to my conclusion above).

What type of build would that armor be good for?
I am not trying to be bitchy here :), I just don't understand the purpose of the armor (and I am pretty sure there is something cool it can be used for :) )

(What I am a bit down over, is that it is a level 47 item which means it can't have 6 slots :) )

Well , I got no clue too, but the level requirement of an item and itemlevel are two different things. You can drop that item from a lvl50+ monster/chest/whatever and it will be able to get 6 sockets.

Really? So if it dropped from a level 50+ mob (and it did) I can upgrade it to a 6 socket armor?
Yes.

If you want to double check (not doubting your memory, I just like teaching about new tips and tricks, as well as technically explaining mechanics), you can pick up the item on the cursor by left clicking it, then type /itemlevel in the chat. This will tell you the itemlevel. 6-socketing is unlocked at item level 50 and above.

Item level is equal to monster level. Monster level of white monsters is equal to the area level, while monster level of magic (blue) monsters is equal to the area level + 1, and monster level of rare and unique (yellow, brown) monsters is equal to the area level + 2.

ALSO: I don't know about this for sure, as very few people use Lightbane Raiment, but the 10% phys damage -> chaos damage conversion MIGHT be for damage taken rather than damage dealt. It is an armour, after all. That would make your character more sturdy against physical damage, assuming you have high chaos resistance or Chaos Inoculation.

Awesome. Thanks for the help. Very much appreciated!

Can anyone confirm that the damage converted is for damage taken and not for damage dealt, please?

EDIT: OH, and the item was level 58 :)

It's definitely for damage dealt. Otherwise it would be worded differently. Easy to test - just equip it and then check your offense tab in the character panel.

Physical dmg converted to chaos is for getting around reflect. 10% isn't enough to make this item useful, though. It should be 25% so it works nicely with other conversion mechanisms (eg: darkscorn).
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

So you're saying the item is basically not good enough to see use?

But why go though the trouble of designing a unique item and then make it useless? There must be some idea and thought behind the design of this armor ...

I think it is mostly for desecrated ground, plus as it is told before works with darkscorn. And as it's written it should convert 10% of your damage to chaos damage. Darkscorn has "25% of Physical Damage taken as Chaos Damage" for damage dealt to you
Darkscorn has extra 25% and 10% from this unique is 35%.

The player designed Zahndethus' cassock, with consecrated ground. GGG designed the lightbane raiment so they could have a complementary, Desecrated ground ability (or something like that). The item is meant for Desecrated ground.

OK thanks for the replies. I can't really make anything useful from it then I think :)
