Can someone explain how you're meant to kill Dominus?

Hey guys,

So my first character in Hardcore had trouble but was able to kill Dominus on Normal, because on Normal he just isn't that hard. However, on cruel a lot of people including myself, die.

I lost my first character at Level 54 to cruel Dominus, so for my second character I went a lot more tanky.

When I got to Dominus I had, what I thought to be great defenses. (50% Block, 75% All Resist, 5k armor at Level 55) However, when fighting Dominus I noticed in his first stage, his blue attack was still doing HUGE damage, is it not actually a resistible element?

Eventually, using the cover in the room and running around like a headless chicken, I managed to kill him in stage one, but in stage 2, the damage he was doing was insane, the start of the fight everything seemed fine, I wasn't taking much damage, but as soon as he went into bubble mode I started taking huge damage even though I was inside the bubble, I really don't know why I was dying so fast.

So my question is how are people actually managing to kill this boss, I understand that people are doing it with much less defense than me too. What am I doing wrong?

I tried teleporting out and in during the fight, but it seems like the more I do this, the harder and harder he gets... to a point where if I go back in I'm going to die. Eventually I just gave up and now I'm stuck in Cruel.

PS. I killed Piety right before Dominus and I just meleed her with 0 skill needed, just held down one attack till she died it was that easy.

5 endurance charges, 3k life, 6k physical damage, 5% life leech, 79 all res, 71% damage reduction, 75% block. You walk up to him and smash him over the head with sword or mace. Add life gain on hit if still having trouble.

That how I killed him on merc.
Well, you are supposed to kill him. It just take 10 deaths to do it.

Be sure and put a TP before you enter his area.
It's all fun and games until someone pokes your eye out!
You're forced to roll a facetank build or group up with someone that can tank that's pretty much the only way to beat him w/o dying. I don't understand why they would add a boss that forces you to facetank him either.
So I am melee reaver, I had maxed resists, 2k hp, 35% block. I tried to solo him using infinite portals in nemesis cruel, and then during the 4th phase (blood phase), I didn't alt+f4 like Chris taught me in time because I was trying to click a portal, then death.
-----------------------

So here is my feedback about the 4 stages from a solo melee players perspective in Cruel Nemesis:

First phase

If I remember correctly the enemies are a spark-totem user, a cycloner, a leap slam+fire dragon projectile user and maybe one more. This was doable by running around and isolating targets. This part was well designed.

Second Phase
This one has a titty bitch boss, a tail-whipping boss (think lunaris 3 boss) and 2 more I think? Anyhow, like in the first phase this was doable by running around and siolating targets. well designed phase.

Third phase
This is when you face the first phase of dominus.
He has 5 skills:
1. He can blink to your location.
2. He can put a curse on you that makes nearby adds run like mad towards you and explode.
3. He can create searing-bond water-totems
4. He can throw some form of continuous water-attack towards you like a laser.
5. He charges a bit then does an AoE non-elemental attack for roughly 1500 hp if it hits?

He will use his skills seemingly random except the first skill which he only uses if you are rather far away. So you can't learn "rotations" and that way predict what he will do next.

This leads to that is basically a gigantic gear check. If you don't have the gear, you cannot beat this as melee. His third skill seems to work like docks dogs' fire breath in the sense that if you run around him, the breath will keep targetting you.

So essentially the way to beat this as melee: have enough gear and life leech to be able to stay at basically full health while facetanking him during his water-cannon phase; make sure to stand at the south of the screen so that the adds don't reach you when he cats his 2nd skill (adds spawn at north).

You need to dodge his 5th skill everytime because it is likely that if that skill crits, you'll die in 1 hit.

Because you need to dodge his 5th skill, you need to run away when he uses his searing-bond totems, because those totems will slow your movement and will prevent you from otherwise be able to dodge the 5th skill.

So: bad design. I hate gear check design.

I like Vaal's design far better: you could beat it with no gear if you were good enough with your mechanical skills.

Fourth phase

Dunno how often mobs spawn here, but essentially I try to facetank him and that was fine for a while until both the mobs and the boss was targeting me and I simply couldnt keep up with the damage done to me. D:
Get used to this. ^^

GGG has decided they want you to play a certain way, because they think it's the only way to have fun.

OP not telling us his HP makes me believe he doesn't have enough of it.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Play with lvl 51 scion and died about 40 times trying to kill Dominus.
Two guys tried to help me lvl 73 witch and lvl 78 marauder the died in seconds.
Ok i heard about ways to beat dominus but boss is too nerfed with curse.
First of all in all game curse work in small area not everywhere
second not with that much damage.

This really sounds like the softcore "i don't need survivability" mindset. Either that or your equipment is really horrible
well i believe that problem is with the nerfed Dominus.
İf i killed Piety without dying
but with Dominus dying like ... i believe that there is problem.
it not just me guys with 70 lvl have the same problem (on dominus cruel).
İ this game it was supposed to be able to run awat from attack from boss not to go like crazy nowhere to hide just to go near him and his 100 minions.
by the way his curse reminds me of Diablo 1 apocalypse (dont know why).
