How to remove leveling up of skill gems such as cast on damage taken

I want to keep it at level 1
Yet on the top right hand side it keeps saying + to level up I remember there is an option to get rid of this? The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. Right click the button and it will hide it on the inventory screen.

Why would you want it at lvl 1?

Also, if you do accidentally level it up, if you trade the gem and a single orb of scouring to a vendor, you get the gem back with -1 level (so a level 10 gem becomes level 9, for example).

" because it triggers every 480 dmg taken where as if you level the gem it becomes useless (e.g. triggers once at 300000 dmg and does miniscule dmg increase) yep thanks for the socour advice i had to use around 10 scours because i eventually read what the gem level increase actually does Woe is me. As of 6/9/2015, this recipe no longer works. A gem and orb of scouring vendor for 2 scroll of wisdom fragments.

I just did it. You get two scroll fragments if you try and vendor a lvl 1 gem. The recipe works. The fact I even had to try this...
