Issue With Character List the does not allow me to play.
|
I have encountered an error which does not allow me to play the game. I have just recently installed the steam version of PoE. I have linked my account to steam as instructed, received the email, and done what I was told to. But when I go to character list after clicking login this is what shows up http://i.imgur.com/peNRb9h.jpg When I click leagues I get this http://i.imgur.com/Tk7N4b0.jpg When I click create, select a character, and type in a name i get this http://i.imgur.com/3oed3IR.jpg Notice on this screen the OK button is darkened out and once clicked takes me back to the login screen. Whenever I go to select league from the creation page my game does this http://i.imgur.com/PLNr1yF.jpg I then click cancel and my game closes. I have uninstalled the steam version of PoE 3 times, and the PoE individual client twice as well. I have been trying to log in since 1.0.0 came out and have only been successful once, and when logging out to go get food, ruined my chances of logging back in. I have been trying repeatedly to access my characters to play the game. I have done the PackCheck thing, and allowed PoE through my firewall/antivirus program. I do not know what the problem is, nor what causes it, but I would very much like to get it solved so I can once again play the game.

Seems you're having a connection issue of some kind.
That information should be downloaded from the server when you connect (the character list, etc). Try disabling your Firewall/Antivirus completely and see if it makes a difference. Are you on a home network, or using some corporate/edu network (IE: are you on your own personal ISP provided network)? |

I turned off firewall and nothing changed. How can it be a connection problem when literally everything else (programs and games) connects 100% fine. I am at college and am using the internet provided by the school.

" Aaah.. there ya have it. Most large networks (corporations, schools, etc) have a HEAVY amount of firewalls/filtering going on in their network. This is to protect their networks. It is quite possible that they have some of the required ports blocked. Games (especially Path of Exile) use a LOT of different ports for different things. If ANY of those ports are blocked, it can cause problems. You might be able to patch (because port 80 is open) and you might be able to initially log in (because the login port is open), but perhaps you can't connect to the other server which pulls character lists or server league information. You can TRY a VPN to see if if will get around the blocked ports, but there are no guarantees. But that's exactly why I asked that question. In those types of networks, it is VERY common for a lot of games/software to not work properly due to hardware firewalls within their network. |

That's pretty freaking annoying.

" Corporate/University networks aren't generally meant for gaming purposes. They're meant for business and education. *shrug* |

What I dont get is why its just path of exile. I play hundreds of other games and never have any problems with it.

" Because each game has their own sets of ports they use. Some are standard ports, some are not. Also a lot of popular games get added to port settings by the network administrators so they CAN be played by students... but that requires getting network engineers involved in opening up the ports. Make a request to your network admins that they open the ports for Path of Exile and see if it makes a difference. If they don't know which ports are required, support can provide a list for them (or you can do a couple of quick google searches and find them I'm sure). |

Also, the irony is that I had my VPN off because I thought it wouldnt let me play PoE.... *facepalm*

" Does it work on VPN? |
