Will you have to download PoE again on Steam?
Usually when a game becomes available on Steam, and it's already installed on your PC, you can just move the files over to the steam game folder, hit "verify file integrity", and it will recognize that the game is there. This does not seem to work for PoE however, am I missing something? Or is there a new format for Steam?

You need to start the Steam install process, but cancel it after it starts downloading the Content.ggpk file. You can then copy the Content.ggpk file from your old install and it should finish correctly using the "verify" after that.

Yes, that is how you do it. But it is not working for me.
Edit: Problem solved. Didn't realize steam had started downloading stuff into a "downloading" folder rather than straight into the right folder. Last edited by Scully#4203 on Oct 24, 2013, 11:43:18 AM

Were you able to skip most of the download or did you have to wait for the installation? I've tried putting the entire old, fully patched PoE folder into common/pathofexile as well as, replacing the content file in steamapps/downloading. Perhaps I'm putting the file in the wrong place?
