Transferring files to Steam

I have terrible internet with a data cap, so I can't afford to redownload the entire game if I want it on Steam. Is there a way to just copy my existing game files into a Steam directory and verify? I've already tried copying the PAth of Exile folder to Steam/steamapps/common.

As far as I know you can move the Content file into Steam/steamapps/common/Path Of Exile/ but you need the other files from Steam (for example the .exe file is PathOfExileSteam.exe instead of PathOfExile.exe).

How exactly should I go about that? Starting the Steam download with the folder already in place made it instantly delete the content pack (although Steam says the download's 2.7 gigs). Now I'm trying moving it in while the download's paused and if possible, verifying.
I can handle a few Mb, I'd just like to avoid as much downloading as possible.

I've also tried to use my old installation files from beta to no avail. Based from this, http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/548523, someone's been able to figure part of it out, though i'm unsure if they had to wait for install or skipped the download.

Looking to get back into the game and this would be awesome
I can't download the entire game again so any chance of using the download pre-steam would be great

I looked through the last dozen or so pages of tech support forum and didn't see any answers so I'll bump this since I found it off google :p
