It is not melee. Skills that can be used with a bow have the word 'bow' in the tooltip.

It is considered two-handed, so you can get 6 sockets on one.

No. (Increased melee physical damage will not work with them, one has to pick increased phys.damage with bows instead.)
Melee: axe, claw, dagger, mace, staff, sword, unarmed.

Not everyone is a native speaker of English. A google search of "melee" from my browser gives "a confused fight, skirmish, or scuffle" as the first definition of melee - something that could definitely apply to a bow weapon. (A non-native speaker might, for example, interpret melee as non-magical damage).
