Difference in "Swords"

I've always wondered that when ti comes to passive tree traits, is there a difference between "one handed swords" and "two handed swords" when a skill says increase damage by xx% for "swords"

It's really confusing and I need to clear this up to continue my build

A sword by any other name is still a sword.

So if a passive trait gives bonuses to "Swords" it applies to both two handed and one handed swords?
