5 Link 5 socket vs 5 link 6 socket odds?
Information was inconsistent, can someone help?
Are the chances to 5 link easier on a 6 socket then a 5 socket item? If so by how much? I have a 5 socket item. I'm only after 5 link. Should I start fusing for 5 link or get 6 socket then try to 5 link? TLDR: Odds 5 link 5 socket item (spend less jewelers more fuse?) vs Odds 5 link 6 socket item (spend more jewelers less fuse?) |

noone knows how the chances are... those numbers you see from time to time are estimated averages collected over a long period of time by the community
but a 6s can 5l in 2 directions a 5s can only link in one https://poe-ssf.herokuapp.com/. Join the fun. SSF HC Legacy Witch Lvl 53 Last edited by ventiman#1405 on Sep 1, 2013, 6:34:10 AM

As far as I know, a 5L is easier to get if it's a 6S.

the average for 5l on a 6S is about 120. (from the 6S fuse thread)
5L on a 5S is twice as unlikely (roughly) so should take about 240 fuses. Those 120 fuses more are 480 jewellers, so if you can get a 6S with less then you should be ahead by a bit. Then again its very random and I have spent more than 250 fuses to get a 5L on a 6S and have also gotten 5L on 5S with 14... Mark explained the way linking works in another thread a little while back.
It starts at the first socket, rolls the number of links it will have (0-5) then goes to the next available socket and repeats this. So the chance of 5L on 5S is the chance of a 5L, the chance of 5L on a 6S is the chance of a 5L straight off, added to the chance of getting a 0L followed by a 5L. So a pretty small increase actually. |

I'd of thought it would be easier on a 6S seeing as there is two combinations that can make a 5L

If you roll fusings on a 6 socket, not only do you have increased chance at rolling a 5 link, but you can get lucky and roll a 6 link.

ill always go 6s- 5l... just because its harder to fuse 5/5 then 5/6.. and what if you 'accidentally' get 6l.... wasting fuses on 5s 5l is not wise imho

" By far easier with 6 socket. With that said it's still so random. For example I only used 3 Fuse to 5 link and 30 to 5 link Both examples should be considered 'Very lucky' but you get what I mean. 3.3 RF Trickster SSF HC guide : https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2147256 Last edited by Rusherboy#5889 on Sep 2, 2013, 8:38:21 AM
