Uninstalling problem
|
So I installed POE on a different hard drive that I had on my computer before. That hard drive failed on me so I had to get a new one. I installed the new hard drive and now it is showing that POE is still installed on my control panel. I try to uninstall it from the control panel but it gives me the folder has invalid characters error. I went into the registry and deleted all of the Grinding Gears Games volumes and still no luck. I tried CCleaner and the same problem still arises. I can't reinstall the game either because it still thinks there is a previous version installed on my computer. I tried uninstalling it from cmd but it doesn't even show up on the list after I type in the WMIC command. Can anyone help me I am completely stumped on this one any help would be great.
TL;DR POE won't uninstall because my other hard drive failed any help? |

Are you just trying to uninstall so you can re-install it?
If so, don't worry about it. Just download the client here and then put it in whatever folder you want Path of Exile installed to. Then run the Client.exe file and it will download the rest, etc. If you HAVE to get rid of the installer, I use a program like CCleaner to go in and remove the installer entry if it won't uninstall, then you can run the installer again. But you don't necessarily have to do that if all you want to do is run PoE. Good luck and let us know if you have troubles or need more assistance. |

Thank you so much I just needed to uninstall it so that I could get the game to install again but I guess just taking the client works too. Thanks a lot man I can't wait to play. Btw I tried CCleaner and no luck :(

in CCleaner, it's under the tools I think. there is an option there to just remove the installer entry. it just deletes it from the installed list.
but as I said, you shouldn't need to. |

" If it's not working, it shouldn't be a problem. I just opened up my CCleaner and wanted to verify that you were doing the right thing. You first find the Path of Exile option in the list when you click "Tools" on the left side followed by the "Uninstall" group next to it (where it says Uninstall, Startup, File Finder, etc). Once you've selected Path of Exile, you first try "Run Uninstaller" which will most certainly fail as that is what fails in the first place. When this failure happens, I click the "Delete Entry" button which removes Path of Exile from the Installed Programs list. It shouldn't give you any MSI or other errors clicking "Delete Entry". If so, that's a new one for me. I've had plenty of uninstalls fail, but have never had a problem with "Delete Entry" afterward. Good luck. |
