120HZ monitor makes sound when on path of exile

My VG248QE makes a buzzing sound whenever my screen is on path of exile. When I alt-tab out or play a different game, the sound isn't there anymore. Is this a known problem and is there a way to fix this?

I changed my windows settings to only run 60HZ and the sound disappeared. I assume the game has a problem with handling 120-144HZ refresh rates?

I wouldn't say it's a problem with the game as much it is a problem with your monitor. When the game gets going, it's pushing high frame rates in your monitor which it doesn't seem to like.

You honestly don't need 120hz to play this game. Anything in the 60Hz range is plenty.

I made a video however, the sound was hard to pickup through the camera. You can hear the difference a little bit though. I alt-tabbed at around 0:03 seconds and alt-tabbed back into the game at around 0:09

I agree that I don't need 120hz to play the game. However with the other games I play it's quite helpful. I just find it annoying that I'd have to change all my settings whenever I go back and forth between the games (which I do quite frequently)

Also, I don't think it's a problem with my monitor. Compability - maybe. The monitor is capable of handling 144Hz with any other games that I play except for this one

This is a monitor problem. Try to localize where the noise is coming from, it could be anything from a dying power supply to a backlight. Does the monitor change noise if you adjust the settings from the monitor menu? Test the brightness setting especially. Also relevant, what sort of cord are you connecting the computer to the monitor with?

Your problem is hardware. While the game can make the symptoms show up, the game is not CAUSING the problem. It's just making the problem manifest. There's a subtle but important difference there.

I'd recommend doing what ionface suggested and attempt to locate where the sounds are coming from and attempt to troubleshoot what makes them better/worse. Brightness, Contrast, Color settings, etc. All that stuff should be played with in an attempt to figure out what is causing the issue. Also the cable type can be important as ionface said.

Let us know what you find out.
I tried changing the brightness / contrast / volume / all the monitor settings etc.. and nothing changes. The only thing that makes the sound is running PoE specifically. The other games that I tried (Crysis, cs go, saints row, dota 2, hon) doesn't make the sound. I'm using a DVI cord

Just to be thorough, what about starting PoE with --nosound? Make sure this isn't hum from speakers, are there speakers inside the monitor?

What is your monitor model, and describe the noise as best you can, is it like an electrical whine of a constant pitch? Does it buzz like an old refrigerator?

I tried running it with -nosound and it's still there.

The monitor is a vg248qe from asus.

I made a video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrTGTtr888Q&feature=youtu.be
from 0:03 I'm in game and I alt tab out at 0:03. The sound is a little hard to get through the camera but I think you'll be able to hear it
