Option to reduce 'flash' from some skills - epilepsy warning

I have found that some builds are nearly impossible for me to run due to 'flash' from the skills involved. ie, sparks, freezing pulse, lightning arrow. I can't run with anyone in the party who is using them either.

The flashing effect on dark backgrounds gives me a headache within minutes, and although I'm not epileptic I'm assuming that anyone who is even mildly epileptic would have serious issues with them also.

Suggestion is for an option in UI to remove these flashing effects on some skills. maybe to use an alternate dulled down version.

I also find that the lightning flashes in strand can have similar effects on my eyes and I never hang around there long, but someone who has just downloaded the game and does not know about that lightning there could have serious issues.

I would suggest an epilepsy warning the first time someone slots one of those skills also just as a precaution. This needn't be ever time its done, just the first time that account slots those 'flashy' skills.

Are you serious? It's a video game!

And someone with epilepsy is going to be surprised a video game has flashing lights in it?

That's so dumb, I'd uninstall the game if GGG were to put some warning box up on the screen. Not even joking, I'd be done and never look back.

stop over moderating that makes the official forums useless

Not only did you not further your explanation as to why 'it's dumb' but you also made your self seem like a self-centered, egotistic prick. You're not thinking about others that do suffer from epilepsy, but only about yourself for whatever reason. Why would that cause you to uninstall the game, another point you failed to elaborate on?
Totally agree effects are way too flashy and makes the game next to unplayable in certain situations

Some more graphic settings would be nice, im sure a lot of this could be fixed by tuning down lightning, particles and stuff

I noticed that you didn't uninstall the game when they revamped the entire gem system for those with colour blindness issues. Not only were the colours altered to make it easier to see the difference but they also put the little icons on them to make it easier.

So your argument would be that its fine and dandy to alter graphics for one health issue that requires altered graphics but not for another that could in fact cause fits in some people. You'll also notice that a lot of games have distinct epilepsy warnings on them, even just to cover themselves legally.

The flashing in PoE is extensive, and not just in some places that are easily avoidable. As much as you seem to think that all games are flashy, they are not. You also have the option in most games of adjusting the lighting / backgrounds to account for it. I've even seen one game that had a dedicated setting for epileptic players to use and it was pointed out as soon as you downloaded the game.

GGG would do well to take it into account, as it would mean that if their game was epilepsy friendly they could market it as such and that would bring them in a lot more players as well as income.

But hey, I'm sure you know all about how health issues affect the economics of online gaming and how many of the gamers have health issues that they need to work around. You'll also find that a large number of gamers are disabled in some form or another an that they spend many hours online due to it.

So happy you have your health, some of us don't and have to work around it.

Pity you have no wit or manners to go with it.

I have to agree with Talismannn. Compared to other games PoE is very flashy, especially in groups, causing searing headaches to epilepsy. Maybe thats not the case for you bchan, but in which way would adding an option to reduce effects hinder you in your pleasures in path?

I made a post about this problem as well and I still havn't heard a reasonable explanation as to why this shouldnt be implemented. All I've heard so far is "I don't need it so why should you".
Bumps.
I know this is an old thread of mine, but I'm going to bump it in the hopes that GGG might add something in with the new mini expansion in March.

Would be very nice to have some feedback from them on this issue as well.

And another one who thinks only a dev post will bring him peace. They saw the thread and they might or might not do something about it.

I dont think game settings regarding effects are much of an issue since i dont really have a problem with the effects at all unlike D3 and other games are way flashier and nobody ever asked Acti Blizz for changing settings for people with epilepsy.

Also, the game settings might not even be adjustable from a certain point on as its as low as it gets in flashiness unless someone plays this game on a 10 year old graphics card.

Personally, the only skill my eyes have had notable issues with is Discharge. Discharging multiples of all three types of charges is just a retina fryer. I'm glad Lightning Arrow was toned down in the past. Now, I think it is maybe Discharges turn for a toning down.
TY to those who called me out on my BS on these forums. There is no benefit to being so selfish as to fail to acknowledge others' differing beliefs of what "should be" or believe your own opinions so supreme as to be factual and thus dismiss others' opinions as being somehow a lie or delusional.
