Symantec Network Threat Protection Disconnects
Hello, I've recently bought a new laptop and decided to install Symantec antivirus on it. Unfortunately it seems that it's causing some disconnects that make playing impossible. If I turn off the network threat protection entirely I'm able to play fine. I was wondering if anyone knew the correct changes to make to the settings so that I may play with Symantec running. Thanks!
Then again...it may not be Symantec and instead may be some sort of packet loss. I'll keep playing with it and see what I can find out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Exiled on a Path. Last edited by Jase#5777 on Aug 11, 2013, 12:04:00 AM

Could you please confirm the exact name of your antivirus software? I had a quick look for how to add exceptions but was unable to find any relevant information unfortunately.

I wasnt using Symantec antivirus or firewall for years now so I cant help with that but if you are willing to install something else give a look to Comodo Internet Security. It has antivirus also firewall and another security options. It is easy to use, free and offer very good protection.

Spoiler
1. Right Click the Norton icon to bring up the dashboard 2. Click Settings at top 3. Click Firewall 4. Click Program Rules 5. Click Add 6. Find Grinding Gear games folder (defualt on 64bit is c:\program files (86)\ Grinding Gear Games 7. Double click into Path of Exiles Folder 8. Double Click on Client.exe 9. Change drop down to allow 10. Click Apply I would be surprised if you need to add actual port rules for POE but if you do these steps should help. Jump to Step 3 above (clicking on firewall)

1. Click Traffic Rules 2. Click Add 3. Make sure Allow is marked, and click Next 4. Click 'Connections to and from other computers' Unless you know the specificity of the rules (click next) 5. Unless your network requires something specific just leave it on any computer (has to do with whats on your network that's running through you computer, as a server, basically. Click Next 6. When you are given port rules they will say TCP or UDP or both, select the appropriate option change the option to apply only if it matches all the ports listed below. 7. Click Add 8. If you are given just one port, click individual specified ports, if you are given a range like 1000-2000 or something select port range. 9. Click ok 10. If you have more ports jump back to 7 if you are all done click Finish. I always restart my PC after doing ports to make sure they are taken correctly. You can also go to portforward.com for help with your specific router and usually directions for norton/symantic or any other anti-virus *edited* Added spoiler tags to clean up the post a bit Last edited by Gixxerdude#1194 on Aug 12, 2013, 10:22:11 AM
