Dexterity: How necessary is it?

Outside of needing dexterity to use green gems and certain gear, how important is dexterity to your overall accuracy?

I have a build in mind that I want to try, but I noticed that after I spent my points I only have 14 dexterity allocated and a ton of strength and intelligence.

Is it easy enough to compensate for the lack of dexterity and have adequate accuracy?

The build is a crit build and I'm aware of how important accuracy is to the crit mechanics. I'm just wondering if I'm going to have to rework my build to include more dexterity nodes.
There is no magic bullet answer.

You may want to consider though that each Dexterity gives 2 Accuracy. So even if you get 150 Dex unless you have +Acc% nodes that's still only 300 additional accuracy which should be reasonably easy to make up on gear or perhaps using an Additional Accuracy gem.

Accuracy is often a very good way of increasing your DPS. I've seen a lot of people run builds (pre-Acc/Eva patch) running 70-75% estimated hit chance. Getting that up to something like 80-85% estimated hit chance would be like getting ~14% more damage so it certainly isn't worth neglecting.

Spoiler
I'll also mention here that the hit chance you see listed on the character window is estimated based on your current level. In reality most mobs have different Evasion values to those estimated by the character window. Which means that your actual Chance to Hit is pretty much always going to be different. Just use that value as a ballpark figure. The actual formula is:

chance to hit = attacker_accuracy / ( attacker_accuracy + ((defender_evasion/4)^0.8))

and is calculated for each individual attack although it's hard to know the defender evasion values. Same goes for estimated damage reduction due to Armour (actually depends on how much you're hit for) & Chance to Evade (depends on monster Accuracy as well as your own Evasion).
99% of suggested changes would make the game easier. Thats why only 1% of suggested ideas are even worth considering.

It's pretty marginal unless you literally have no other way to get accuracy.

You get 2 accuracy per point of Dex, so a level 20 Additional Accuracy support (which now has fairly minor stat requirements) is the equivalent of over 500 Dex. Even better, you can get item mods that are the equivalent of several hundred Dex in terms of accuracy.
