Logs and Content file put on desktop everytime I start up PoE

Every time I start up PoE, it puts a Logs folder, Content.ggpk, ogg.dll, OpenAL32.dll, wrap_oal.dll, and vorbis.dll file on my desktop. Usually I just delete them, but then I noticed it has to allocate space and install the 9.11k patch again I believe.

Any help?

I am just thinking off the top of my head...
corrupted Registry keys
over zealous AntiVirus (Defense+ or something)

OS: WinXP SP2 32bit
CPU: Athlon 64 X2 3800+
Ram : 4GB Kingston PC2-6400 5-5-5-18
Mobo: Abit KN9-Sli (NF570-Sli chipset with Realtek Audio)
GPU: ATI HD4670 1GB
HD: Maxtor 20GB - OS - Seagate 500GB - Games / Storage / PageFile
Network / ISP: Wired / Cox Cable
Don't think that is it, because I actually reinstalled my OS a few days ago and put PoE back on it, and now i'm getting this problem.

Registries can become corrupt for no real reason, but.

I assume that no other program that Updates does this?

When you replaced the game, Was it by actual reinstall?

What is the path of the actual game?

The files that appear on the desktop, are the the same as the files in the directory?

Curious, why did you reinstall the OS?

It was really a reinstall, my HDD failed so I installed an OS onto a new HDD.

Path of the game is C:\Games\Path of Exile

Yes, the files are the same in each directory.

I also noticed that World of Warcraft did the same thing, but it does not anymore, though it doesn't update each time.

So my assumption is when a game as an update, it puts the files on the desktop, though PoE updates each time for some reason.

possible reason 1) the system thinks the desktop is the installation folder of the game (could be checked in the registry)

possible reason 2) the system tries to use the desktop folder as temp directory (should be also checkable at the environment variables)

beside this, bo idea whats going on/wrong.

Are you sure it's a game shortcut on your desktop and not the executable?
This sounds like you have the Working Directory of your Path of Exile shortcut set to the wrong spot - Try opening the Properties for your PoE shortcut, and changing the Working Directory to where these files should be.
Balance & Design
Just checking to see where we are on this?

If it is the Icon and not the executable, Right click, select Properties, :
"

Target : "C\Games\Path of Exile\Client.exe"
Start In: "C\Games\Path of Exile\"

If that's correct, Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Environmental Settings >

"

Temp | C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Temp
TMP | C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Tmp

System Variables
"

Temp | C:\Windows\Temp
Tmp | C:\Windows\Temp

If those are correct, the I would be looking at the Registry and the Antivirus/Spyware items.

This fixed it! Thanks for all the help everyone.
