Essentia Sanguis Ghost Reaver is Essentially Useless

I was really excited to try this claw out on my shadow. I initially thought that the Ghost Reaver effect would only apply to the damage of the claw, but I was wrong. It is applied to your entire character, making it so the only leech you get is for your ES pool.

The claw itself is really good, but it is only used for CI builds, and has no usage for life builds (other than maybe a low life build, which is crazy to even attempt as a melee). This is because all the leech goes to your ES pool, so the only way to gain life would be through potions (which is not a viable source for a melee character late game). If the claw were to leech only to your ES, you could still have that backup life leech. This introduces potential for full life builds (melee damage on full life and other properties), as you could take damage and still have full life because the damage would go to your energy shield.

Now if you're going to be a CI claw shadow, you will need to get the claw passives as well as the ES passives. The most accessible path to get claws and the most ES nodes connects right through with Ghost Reaver. Meaning in most cases, this claw saves one passive point. Not very strong for an item defining characteristic.

If the claw were to just leech ES for the damage it deals, then it would not only introduce viability for HP claw builds to use it, but it also wouldn't strongly affect ES based builds around it either. A good portion of ES claw builds dual wield them anyways, so they would in effect have the Ghost Reaver property without having to actually spend a point, therefore not affecting the builds at all.

So one change to the item would introduce viability in a life/ES combination build which would add a very interesting dynamic to the shadow tree, and would not strongly affect any CI builds that use the item.

*cough* LGoH gem *cough*
It doesn't help that much for life builds at all. Not only does it take up an extra gem slot (which is pretty rough for melee), but it only helps against large packs of monsters. Facing a boss or a small pack of monsters will cause you big troubles.

Do people really need to quote the entire OP when they're the first to reply? Who the hell else would they be talking to?

Anywho, he's right. Ghost Reaver and LGoH make a nice combination, with your life and ES refilling simultaneously.

That's why you should get in the habit of carrying a spare support gem or two in your inventory. Swap out LGoH for boss battles.

With ES life leech, you should be able to regen enough from a LGoH to keep your Life up, considering whenever you attack youa lso get a ES buffer refreshed. Not to mention you can also just have a health pot with instant recovery to boost your health if really need be, but most of your tanking with taht item should be on that ES
Before any further replies, I would like to point out that the Ghost Reaver on Essentia Sanguis is not useless; at a minimum, it's a free passive point for dedicated Ghost Reaver builds using the claws.

The thing is, that build isn't really viable. Personally, I'd love to see the ES clusters in the center of the tree (by Inner Force and on the path up to CI) be changed to ES/life bybrid nodes: +4% ES, +4% life per node. Right now the clusters are taken by virtually no one, and this would breathe a little new life into true ES/life hybrid.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

OMG, you have changed my life!

ES + Life nodes would be awesome. Currently I always see the world as ES or Life, mutually exclusive (CI really), but es+life as a combo, not as high a vlue for either (less than the flat 6% nodes etc), but perhaps a notable at the end, that would be pretty cool
I really want to try out these claws since I got this one as well. I would prefer not to use one of my passive points for Ghost Reaver.

Sadly, I do not know the price range for a high-end version of it. I think the ones with 108-110% range with 30% attack speed.
