Remove Level Requirements From Gems
|
There is absolutely no reason for gems to have level requirements. This is the only major downfall of the game besides Desync.
So you are leveling, finally reached a point where you lost interest in your character and feel it is time to try a new approach. So you go ahead make a new character, and you realize, "I either can buy the gem's I need for my new build or I can use my original gem's I just have to reach level 69." This present's a few problems: 1. You might just not have the stamina anymore to level a new character to 69. 2. The build you are currently creating... well it just not working as intended so you gamble that at higher level the gems will perform better. 3. Not all gem's are guaranteed for purchase and you may not have the funds 4. Rare gem's are well... rare. 5. It is a bit long and boring task trying to get to that peak in performance. 6. Gem's take space... (GGG Smart). 7. With the amount of gem's you might as well have at least six tab's ready if you want to keep a lower level in hand. 8. I leveled quickly but sigh, can't use gem still a few level's away. The list continues... I digress Now we have the assumption, "This is gamebreaking." Well not if GGG dictates the gem's power with what stat's you have chosen in your skill tree. EXAMPLE: If you choose to go, INTELLECT, gem's like Freeze Pulse will increase in damage depending how much you have invested in the intellect tree. The higher the intellect the higher the overall level the gem has. Quality of the gem well... that will have to be the only area in where GGG has to adjust. That's it, it is not complicated it is not game breaking your character gem level is determined by nodes invested pertaining to the gem stat requirement. Green gem's require DEX, Red Gem's require STR and Blue gem's require INT. If a gems requires more than one than so be it, that means you have to be even more diligent in choosing your nodes. This change has a profound effect on your skill tree choices and makes the game EVEN more FUN... Imagine creating characters just to try out new builds. C'mon gem's already require stat's and this Level Requirement is just there for no apparent reason than to remedy a flaw. P.S The requirements should not be so absurd that it eliminates combinations of gem's and the freedom to make builds based on various gem's. I have noticed I am left with at least max 30 point's or more after I complete a build and lets not forget armor grants stat's as well. I can promise you this THERE WOULD BE HUNDREDS OF "LEDGE,DOCK,SOLARIS,ETC" leveling rooms, hundreds!!! Just like in D2... people just crazily leveling toons to their hearts consent for that perfect build. "Another... Solwitch thread." " No reason? Man I can think of a few reasons not to give a pile of level 20 gems and support gems to level 1 characters that are actually usable. Although I have to admit, the hardcore player in me lusts after the twink ability seeing as there's a lot of dying and starting over in hardcore. This would be like Enchant in D2. Cool for me as a hardcore player but totally game breaking otherwise. I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

" I thought of this logic, a few adjustments to a few gems is all that's needed. I am writing on notepad right now my reasons and solution's however crazy or archaic they may appear to be lol. No reason for some one to not be able to equip a level 20 fire trap or PA at level 1? Least thought out idea I've seen.

I think his point was more directed at level 1 gems that require level 30+ to be used, IE: flame totem requires level 31 to use at level 1. Regardless i still have to disagree because the skills that require a higher level to be used are that way for a reason, they would do way too much dps for a level 1. Only way this could be viable is with alot of work on GGG's behalf by having to scale such skills down to be on par with level 1.

I think that the level part of the requirements is indeed optional; properly implemented you could use attribute requirements only. This would make certain Level 31 gems available sooner, assuming you built for them.

OK, now that I've seen your update and I understand the problem you're trying to address a bit better I'd go with a much simpler solution.
Give us an easy way to de-level a gem back to level 1. That all being said there is this concept of a "sink" in an economy. Honesty I don't care about the economy but I know others do. Insofar as "not having the stamina to level another character" that's a bit confusing to me. I'd find it pretty easy to level up in onslaught were it not for the trading/crafting/loot fiasco. Again, I'd love to have something like D2's enchant in this game because it suits my solo play style well and facilitates new builds. But that same spell made it possible for a sorc to box Baal down with her bare hands. And what it did to a necro army was utterly game breaking. As much as it's some of my fondest memories in D2 level 1 characters probably shouldn't be one-shotting diablo. For other suggestions like tying it into the stat points I personally feel the devs have much graver concerns to worry about. I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

"It should be: Gem + Orb of Regret = Level 1 version of same gem Very similar to the currently existing formula (Gem + Orb of Scouring = same gem 1 level lower), but with more oomph.
