Chaos vs Scour + Alch
Hi,
I am trying to get back into the game after a few months off. There is something in the economy that I don’t understand. People are asking for chaos orbs as payment but will not accept scour + alch which is exactly the same thing (actually even better because you can use a scour + alch on a blue item where chaos can only be used on rare). Is there something I am missing here? The only thing I can think of is inventory space. But its just 1 slot different when looking at 30 chaos = 3 slots vs 30 scours + 30 alchs = 4 slots. Thanks for any insight you can provide. Last edited by RPIED#7363 on Jul 12, 2013, 9:55:11 AM

They're using them as currency rather than crafting material.

" But this doesn't make sense. All these orbs (chaos, scour, alch) have value because they can be used in crafting, not like an exalted where its value is based only on rarity not functionality. |

I agree with you, but its like asking for 4 quarters and getting 10 dimes.. People are just stupid sometimes..

Why doesn't it make sense to you?
Chaos orbs have long been considered dual-use: 1) As an orb to change the modifiers on a rare item 2) As currency to trade for other items. For some people, #1 is most important. For some, #2 is most important. Sure, if you are only interested in #1, then an Alchemy + Scour has the same affect. But if you are interested in #2, an Alchemy + Scour is only the same value if you can find someone willing to trade the Alchemy + Scour for a Chaos. But anyone who has a Chaos orb and would therefore be capable of trading it for an Alchemy + Scour, there's no point in doing so. The end result is that for most people, a Chaos is worth slightly more than an Alchemy + Scour. http://guildmedieval.com/ Last edited by dawg6#2998 on Jul 12, 2013, 10:41:20 AM

Let me put it this way... you were doing laundry, and you had $10 but the machine only took quarters. You go to the guy with your $10 and ask for quarters and he gives you 40 slugs that he says will work the same as quarters, would you take it? Not every time for sure.

" But that makes zero sense, as Alch+Scour does exactly the same thing and thus should have the same value. In fact, it should have a higher value, as the two are separate. And there is no reason why anyone should deny this. Luna's Blackguards - a guild of bronies - is now recruiting! If you're a fan of our favourite chromatic marshmallow equines, hit me up with an add or whisper, and I'll invite you!

Shags also hits on another subtle point.
If I am asked to accept 1 Alchemy and 1 Scour in lieu of a Chaos, I would be inclined to accept it. I occasionally have a use for a scour and alchemy, so it's not a big deal. But, if you want me to accept 30 Alchemy and 30 Scour in lieu of 30 Chaos? No freaking way. What the hell am I going to do with 30 Alchemy and 30 Scour? I might use one or two of them, but I would just be stuck trying to find someone to trade the rest of them for chaos. Now if you offered me 32 or 33 Alc+Scour, then I might think about it. http://guildmedieval.com/

A alch and a scouring should be worth more than a chaos, if not why would you ever use chaos orbs instead just alch+scour?

" You said you would have use for the occasional scour alch, but not 30. What difference does the amount have if you have 30 chaos or 30 scour + alchs. they do exaltly the same thing. The question i am trying to understand is. Why do you need to trade them to chaos? |
