i need help on my templar

i want to make a casting templar, what kind of armor stats should i look for(armor, evasion, energy shield)? sorry im new to the game.
Ultimately, you should use the best gear available to you. If you have the choice between a helmet with 1000 armor and one with 100 energy sheild, you should use the armor. (Note that 1 energy sheild is equivalent to about 3 armor or evasion).
Likewise, if you find boots with 30% movespeed or gloves with high increased attackspeed, it doesnt matter what their defense type is.

But to answer your question, you'll want to focus on armor and energysheild.

Energyshield gives you a cost effective initial buffer (i.e., you can get a solid chunk of it easier than you could get the same ammount of life.) But once it's gone, it usually won't come back until after the fight ends. You pretty much have to simply run away in order to avoid taking damage long enough to recharge it.

Armor, on the other hand, is always there. For prolonged fights, while you're busy guzzling potions, armor will help long after your energy sheild has run out. It doesn't help againt spells though.

Evasion suffers from heavily diminishing returns, but conversely can get a moderate initial boost (10-15% chance to evade) from only a small investment. Feel free to get some of it on the side. The templar just can't get very much of it, compared to armor and energy sheild.

Whatever you do, just make sure you stack alot of life.
Hi,

While i agree with what Kal_Tyrlos is saying, i think it only really applies to early game, in my opinion. Towards end game you will want to be min maxing your character, so picking armor types that synergize with your passive build will produce the most effective results.

Without seeing your passive build, its hard to tell you exactly what to be going for.

For example, on my own templar, my first defensive passive nodes were the body and soul group near the templar starting point, which boosts armor and energy shield - so to maximise the use of these nodes, i stuck with the hybrid str/int chainmail type armors. By the time i hit lvl 50, i had specced into a few more armor passive nodes, with my characters stats being biased towards str. At this point i realised i would be better off using pure str gear, and after the switch, my survivability drastically improved.

If your happy to show us ideas of how you plan to build your templar, im sure we can all help give you more constructive feedback!
