Traps and cooldown resetting.

I started up a new character for the new leagues, and have been using both Firetraps and Bear Traps as a large portion of my damage.

However I am getting really tired of the constant cooldown resetting.

  • It resets their cooldown whenever I zone anywhere, leaving me unable to trap for 5 or so seconds, which is very annoying if you are zoning back in via portal and there are mobs there.
  • It resets their cooldown when they level.
  • It resets their cooldown when their supports level.
  • It resets their cooldown when other gems in the same item, which are NOT linked to the traps level up.
  • I'm pretty sure if I thought about it hard enough, I could reset the cooldown by simply thinking about the traps.


This issue is somewhat present with a few other things, like Tempest Shield and Arctic armour, which are removed every time you zone somewhere.

Also, why can I not life leech with a trap? I understand why you cannot with a totem (because it isn't "you" and it's a one cast for 100 free casts deal). I also understand traps aren't "you" but it isn't much different than the projectile I fire isn't "me". A fire/bear trap work the same as any skill. One mana cost, one attack, one hit. They also are limited in casts. I was disappointed I couldn't leech with them and why like to know why?

If the cooldown didn't reset when you entered an area then you could portall out with a boss, come back in then spam traps then portal out for the cooldown. If you used someone else's portal it would never go away.

Personality I think traps do need a fix. Traps shouldn't be somthing you can just throw on the enemy. That 's more like a grenade then a trap. Chris said in some video that they were planning to change this but I guess they never got around to it. I think that if you throw a trap directly onto something it should not arm until it moves off of the trap. That would force players to set traps in the monsters path like they should be used. This would also fix the spamming 6-9 beartraps in a row at 20k dps.

This is coming from someone that uses EK and beartraps on my highest level toon.

Edit: this would also fix the crazy op sarn/ghetto boss. I joined a puplic ghetto map today and had to solo the boss because everyone else was wiped out. Whoever rolled the map should have passed on the boss speed mod.

I agree that the resetting is annoying. For the reasons Necrogue mentioned, I think reset at zoning is OK, even though it is kinda annyoing. Especially when playing with people who rush off to combat immediately, whereas a trap user has to wait for the traps to build up.
I'm not too comfortable with the idea of using those "trap grenades", but the game is actually not designed to people to lay traps and lure enemies towards them. Most enemies except for maybe zombies are too fast for a tactic like that. And not playing solo you can forget it right out.
Traps not leeching life and mana is fine, though. It also means that traps take the damage from LT and reflect. I'm fine with that, although with my fire trap shadow I am a bit short on mana after laying my 3 traps.
I'd like some of the (very few to start with) trap passives to be reworked, though. Either getting 4 traps per trap skill, so you can lay 4 in a row in contrast to how it is now, that you can lay 4 traps if you have another trap skill or saving at least one trap when zoning.
