Reduced quality

Has it ever been considered (or implemented) to have reduced/negative quality items, ie opposite of superior?
Or is this considered an unnecessary mechanic associated with having to 'repair items' indirectly? 1 use - you can find inferior items which can be crafted/repaired higher. Another use - it could possibly be a mechanic to penalise for death - an item loses some quality if you die, say 5% "You have been killed by a powerful enemy. As a result a weapon/armour has become less powerful" Any thoughts? RipEleHit

" So that's a no to all my questions... You don't want it but don't think it's an unnecessary mechanic.. Was asking a question, hoping to avoid such responses RipEleHit

" Hmm. I was going to say no, but considering who I'm quoting, you might have a good idea on your hands. IRON MAN

There's a unique sword that reduces your drop.
I think other games did that before but can be repaired. People just repaired all the time. If you mean a permanent item debuff, i guess you can make a unique that has +100% power but has a counter for when you die and it generates -5% per counter. You cant make it a regular item because then people will use a cheap version of it and replace it again and again. You might also not want to let it drop in hardcore or allow eternal orbs to be used on it. Oh, a powerful enemy? SC people would just run from the enemy on sight. |

" On the contrary there's no reason to run, I think there should be at times. " Although i was talking about regular items, I like the idea of a unique like this RipEleHit

It'd definitely add more challenge to the game, sure, but keep in mind new people like myself are still finding out/ getting into poe. Having too many penalties upon death could potentially leave a sour taste. Thus negatively impacting the game.
Personally I find the XP penalty enough so far. It seems more of middle ground here compared to guild wars and D2. Guild wars would accumulate an XP penalty up to about 64% or so, and D2 dying repeatedly would break gear/deplete your IGG as with GW2. Now if the devs felt like adding something additional after the full release of the game, sure. Just try not to over do it, you want to challenge the players not punish them for poor tactics/mistakes. Last edited by Amb1t1ous#6779 on Jun 21, 2013, 2:14:05 AM

My idea of reduced item quality is to introduce a "semi-Hardcore League" where your items get reduced by 1 durability PERMANENTLY if you die. Items should have durability points of 10-50.
I think this could be interesting for a more consistent economy, however it can also be very frustrating to lose your 6 link one day(though you realy have to die a lot of times) A good aspekt of this idea is, that poor people could afford good low quality items, because they will probably be a lot cheaper. You will get a 1/50 Kaos for <1 exalt, you just have to avoid death then ;) If I could chose from XP and Itempenalty I would take the Itempenalty after death. |

That would do nothing for high end players with godly gear that makes them not die at all, instead it punishes those trying to gear up.

" Sound argument. I agree wholeheartedly. |
