Elemental Hit Melee templar
|
Hi Forums,
I recently found an Elemental Hit Gem and since my last played Char died and I dont want to play her in SC any further I´m thinking about starting on a EH based Melee Templar. He would be using EH with Melee Splash and probably elemental Proliferation (and possibly Mana Leech) as a main Attack against groups of enemies. I would go for Elemental Equilibrium to take advantage of the alternating damage types. For Bosses I would probably use glacial hammer and lighning strike alternating with every swing to take maximum advantage of elemental equilibrium. I thought about using blood magic but since the char is elemental based I think it makes more sense to go mana based since you can leech that with elemental damage. Also you can use auras without cutting your life pool. Here is the Skilltree I thought of: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUBAnEEswVbFCAUTRhdGS4aOB0UI00n7SlPLdIyiTbpOtg8BUA2Q2NEckbXTdhQR1FgVElVxlcNV-JY9VnzXz9mT2aeZ71xTXbnd-WBSYKbgziExIuMjHaPRpBVkc6SfZhvmK2az5uhncSezZ_foLSiAKcwp4Splayqsji0-bcxud3AGs9l0NDSIdSP2WHhc-Nq5c_nUuw47SDub-8O73zwH_Tp-tL7qg== Has Life, Armor and ES Nodes aswell as the elemental damage nodes. Also as im thinking of oplaying the cahr 1h-shield for survivability there are some shield nodes added in the mix. In order to have some elemental status effects I also took some crit nodes and left out resolute techniques. Dont know if this will turn out great... Also planning on using enfeeble and enduring cry to give more survivability I qould appreciate it if you took a look on the skiltree and the char idea and comment on my different thoughts. Are there major things I didnt think of that will make the char bad? How can I optimize the skilltree? What supports do you think will work best? What Auras and curses should I include in the Build? Also bear in mind that I´m not the richest person and havent much gear to pick from so I hope to get this thing going mainly self found. Hope you can help me make this char work! Regards |

Hi there,
no replies so far but I leveled my templar to lvl 21 yesterday and made up some thoughts regarding the concept myself: - Elemental Equilibrium: It says on the wiki, that if I hit a mob with more than one source of elemental damage that the target will get buffs to all the elemets it was struck by. Does this mean I should avoid all sources of emental damage on my gear and from auras letting Elemental Hit be the only source of Ele Damage? Otherwise I would rather Buff my opponents in contrast to actually weakening them? - So far I´ve been leveleling with Limbsplit and Sweep just for the clearspeed. The Damage for such a alow level Item is insane. I think I will make the transistion to EH when I have the right supports and a decent 4-link ready since at the moment using EH would be rather a pain over using sweep with limbsplit. Question is: will EH get eventually good later on or is the damage rather mediocre? - Does "increased Are of Effect" on passives and gear effects the area of "melee splash"? - I just figured out that my char willl be using a fast sceptre with high elemental weapon damage as a priority. That makes for an expected low physical damage which leaves me without a proper source regaining life. Is it viable to rely on defenses, high life, high life regen and flasks to counteract this? Or should I use life gain on hit to gain more life back while fighting? - Dexterity and To-Hit-Chance! Even though I´m using a Dex Amulet right now, I had to spec into the 20Dex 10% Acc Node at the Templars staring area to even equip the level 1 EH... I looked at the Wiki and saw rather big requirements of that gem. Since there are few good DEx Nodes in the Templar Area do you guys have any advice on how to get good Dex from gear? Are there Uniques I should aim for? - Heatshiver: the unique grants +1 to cold and +1 to fire Gems. Is EH hit considered to be all elements? will it gain +2 level from that Helm? Hope you can help me with my questions, I hope to get playing the char some more this evening and getting it to a point where I can test the core: EH+Splash+Elemental Equilibrium. Regards! |

Hi, i use a very similar build, and here's my advice: avoid elemental equilibrium.
the key to this build is doing all elemental damage in 1 hit, with elemental proliferation and melee splash you can freeze, shock, ignite a whole pack of mobs. heres my talent tree so far http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUBBVs3R2usRUe1BOQiKU_sOFfid-UyiTLRuJMMfRB_xp6nCNrdFVCPRtDQm6HYJDbFHwIEB0yzLR9tGcHzoqN_xhGWflknqWe97m8OSM9lVcYEsxRN8B-iAIFvnjxN2Ix2gptabSQ8p1xJUYIe2wsabBmFJKo26eNqgzjvfF3GRtdd8n4zpJFCw9-EnWPljuOEwFFw1Q== and here's what i aim for: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUBBVs3R2usRUe1BOQiKU_sOFfid-UyiTLRuJMMfRB_xp6nCNrdFVCPRtDQm6HYJDbFHwIEB0yzLR9tGcHzoqN_xhGWnaP8q35ZJ6lnve5vjRngEt2MjjwXVCKBNtjxbOxVnC2HZX6vdhGeoa-b0DkX2F76gUmyOGZPDkjjhMBRcNVwUvPqFr_PZVXGFm8EsxRN8B-iAIFvnjxN2Ix2gptabSQ8p1xJUYIe2wsabBmFJKo26eNqgzjvfF3GRtdd8n4zpJFCw9-EnWPljg== i got a dagger that does cold damage, i run anger and wrath for offensive auras. that way i always hit with the 3 elements. as a 4L, i use elemental hit + elemental proliferation + melee splash + added chaos damage. why a dagger? because we dont care about physical damage, you have to attack as fast as possible to do more elemental damage. so added chaos can be replaced with faster attacks I also use -viper strike + increase duration + increased accuracy (to help for single target) -spell totem + summon skeletons (as meat shield) all auras on reduced mana since i use eldritch battery and inner force i guess discipline could be a nice addition. mana isnt a problem for me, even without clarity |

I didnt come to play much the last few days. Only got to lvl 28 right now.
I just saw that you can use life leech support with elemental damage. Didnt know that before. Since I need some survivability I think I will go for blood magic plus life leech then. Here is what Ive come up with on the passive Tree for 85 Points: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUBAnEEsw48E8wUIBRNFHEVUBhdGS4aOB0UI00n7SlPMok26TpSOtg8BUA2RHJG103YT_NQR1FgUflUSVXGVw1X4lnzXz9mnme9dud35Xy7gpuDOITEi4yMdo9GkFWSfZhvmK2boZ7Nn9-gtKIApwinMKeEqZWqUqyqtPm53cAaz2XQ0NIh1I_ZYdrd37_hc-Nq5c_nUuw47MvtIO5v7w7vfPAf83H06frS-6o= Can someone answer the questions I asked on this thread? Also comments on the passive Tree are welcome! Regards |

Hi everyone,
made some progress yesterday, leveled my Templar to level 33 and finally made the transistion to Elemental Hit at Level 32. So I progressed one level with the actual attack skill this character should use. With the switch I also put a passive point into Elemental Equilibrium. One thing I noticed is that for every enemie struck by the splash of EH the attack takes a randomized Element. Does the Buff/Debuff of Elemetal Equilibrium applies to the element the enemie was struck by or to the element the original target was affected by? I hope someone here can answer this... An advantage this behavior gives is that with elemental proliferation you can inflict all status effects with one crit on a bunch of enemies. I know you can do this with every attack thats inflicting all elemental damages but I initially thought I would only deal one elemental damage type at the time. At the moment Im using EH with Weapon elemntal Damge, Mana Leech and Melee splash. I also had to turn on a clarity aura since the leech doesent suffice for keeping up my mana pool. Once I get to Blood magic and Life leech this shouldnt be a problem anymore (higher Leech value on the support gem, Much higher reserves and regeneration) Still hoping for opinions and advice, regards Last edited by derriesen#7713 on Jun 25, 2013, 4:05:40 AM

Since the replies so far have been rather sparse I will go on and talk about my progress and stuff I fgured out myself...
Have leveled my Templar to level 49 sofar and got to Sarn without dying, so the char stiill remains in HC. Going with Elemental Equilibrium was a good choice, it buffs damage strongly if you dont hit twice with the same element. But there are major downsides with this build that I didnt expect... My clearspeed is more then below average and since I felt my killspeed was not keeping up properly with my progress I had to invest pretty heavily into damage nodes... I wanted to pick those up anyways but didnt expect to be forced to pick them to even preogress in an acaptable manner... Here is my Skilltree as it is roght now: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUAAnEEsxPMFE0VUBhdGjgdFCNNJ-0pTzKJNuk62DwFQDZEckbXTdhP81H5VcZX4lnzZk9mnnflgUmCm4M4hMSLjIx2j0aQVZJ9mG-YrZ_fogCnCKeEqlKsqrI4tPnAGs9l0NDa3eFz42rlz-w47MvtIO988B_60g== Thats about 113% of iincreased elemental damage at level 49 from my skilltree alone... Problem is: I would want to invest much more into defensive nodes and life nodes and make progress towards blood magic faster but I feel forced to go for damage and crit to not take like 5 hits on white skeletons... Here is my gear if youre interested: I traded for that "supreme Truth" since it has accaptable attack speed and a whooping 40% ele damage (also 5% expirience gain is nice^^) So alltogether with the weapon elemental support I run about 224% increased elemental damage... Im currently trying to get more GCPs to get atleast my crit up higher on the EH gem. But I feel that survivability decreased throughout cruel sofar and I cannot keep up with the demands quick enough... I feel like making a switch to another main attack with this char since Elemental Hit doesnt seem worthwhile atm... Also the increasing manacost are getting in my way while making progress... I had to switch out a quicksilver for another mana flask recently because single targets tend to suck my mana pool dry. I doubt that I can finance the life costs of EH even with the current setup when I finally reach BM and gain life back while fighting... I really want to make this work but EH doesnt seem to be a prime choice when it comes to Melee attacks. I hope you can help me make this work by posting tips and comments! regards |

honestly I've always theory crafted EH to be weaker than most other attacks, if you used the same idea and instead removed EE since it is just a hard mechanic the manage, I bet you could get better damage and killing speed from LS.
if you wanted to stay melee range double strike is something I wanted to try with elemental damage and melee splash. I recommend what ever you choose have a skill without splash for single targets. maybe try dual strike dual weilding daggers and attach splash and stack ele damage. |

Thats funny. My last Char I tried and had lots of fun with until he died was a dual strike splash dagger dual wielder.... Clear speed was phenomenal even with crappy self found gear.
But I was to careless.... Maybe I switch this char to that idea, take some points out of the damage nodes and get closer to BM... I´ll try that over the weekend. Its better anyways since I got some decent ele damage gear in my stash that I cant use with EE. I hope that EH gets some love in the future its not compatible or even really enjoyable at its given state. regards |

like i already posted, my build uses EH, but without EE and it works great, just need more attack speed
