Act 2 Boss - Vaal Oversoul - Quick Tips
Just a few quick notes for those doing the boss for the first time. All of his attacks are fully avoidable, but it's recommended to have Lightning Resist in case you get slowed and Laser-chained and to avoid getting one-shot.
- Move constantly, in a circle as much as possible. - He usually fires his laser 3 times in a row. - Watch for cues, mainly the tiny rocks for avalanche and hand movements for Laser. - Avoid the slow. If you do get hit by one, be prepared to use an escape ability when his laser comes. - DO NOT get hit by the Laser more than once per cycle. You take 40% extra damage for each subsequent hit, meaning if you take 3 hits the third hits you for 80% extra. Your 75% resist will not help. In case you get hit once, keep running. - After he disappears, do not be near him when he reappears. His melee attack immediately following his reemergence is his most damaging ability. If you have to take it, pop a Granite.
thanks this will help a lot

Will the avalanche damage you if you are within melee range of the boss (do the rocks only fall at an outer distance)? Is the only way to avoid them to notice if small rocks start falling, and avoid that area? I hate dying to rocks >< (Also I hate dying to the shock, it's pretty hard for me to dodge)

Whirling Blades - works wonders on this fight. I recommend it even if you're not a dex based char.

The melee slam is fire damage, so even a granitre won't help

Id like to add, be careful using totems.
My lvl 50 died in the 2 week hardcore race because i cast a totem to near myself, and when he did his windup slam to kill the totem the splash hit me (the aoe on that thing is huge.) Last edited by RavenousRaven#2380 on Aug 11, 2012, 1:24:18 AM

The biggest hint you'll get:
The Oversoul switches weapons. Whichever of the three guns is rotated towards you, is the one he will use for the next attack. The blue mace will summon adds. The red mace will either do the fire splash attack if there is a target in range, or start the avalanche. The blue gun either fires lasers or ice. The ambiguity of the blue gun might be a little annoying, but paying attention to the weapon switches should prevent every melee blast from hitting.
I haven't been able to predict where the rocks will fall at all. I see where the little rocks fall, but no matter where I move I get hit by huge rock damage. How do you avoid the rocks?
