Min/Max
What do people mean by that? Someone would say minus/max maps, etc, and I have no clue what they are talking about.

Typically, min/maxing maps is done in order to maximize exp and economic gain per time spent.
Economically, knowing which map mods you want for each particular kind of map can help you minimize the amount of currency you put into a map to yield maximum amounts of exp per map. In order to time-efficiently farm maps, you need to know the ins and outs of what your build can and cannot handle. For example, some builds simply cannot deal with reflect maps efficiently, since they have to be incredibly careful else they'd die and either set themselves back 15% of a level, or else lose the character entirely. Min/maxing is simply the process of analyzing what you can and cannot do, what you need to put into something to yield the optimal results, be they for a time efficiency, economic efficiency, or both. In regards to maps, minus max is most likely referring to the "Minus x% maximum resists" mod on maps.

The typical use min/max refers to minimum/maximum... not minus. The term "Best" is often a maximum, but can also be a minimum. Min/max refers to people who go out of their way to make things best, even when it's not all that much better than "good enough".

min/max'ing probably goes way back to old school d+d, or maybe that's just another example.
you had a few base stats like dex, str, charisma, etc, and the min/max'ers would shoot for max values in their key stat by minimizing another stat, like charisma, that they didn't use much, as opposed to a well rounded char, or general role playing. it's basically just slang for being a hyperefficient numbercruncher and trying to use number values at the extreme ends of a scale for maximum benefit and efficiency. |

Not sure what you're talking about in terms of min-maxing maps.
Put it simply there are easy mods and hard mods but that depends on the players and their characters. The best maps are the ones with the amazing positive attributes like increased area size, pack size and a good amount of bearable kinda-negative to negative mods that give you a disproportionate amount of quantity bonus, e.g. bandits, blood magic (if applicable), recovery mods (if applicable), chaos damage etc. Also mods that slow down your progress e.g. Enfeeble, Temporal Chains should be avoided usually. |
