Totems and Crit Strike (Global, Spells, etc)
|
All,
I am trying to figure out whether to go dual-totems on a build or not, and when thinking about keystone and skill interactions, I was wondering if your personal chance to crit strike with spells, as well as your global chance to crit strike, gets transferred to totems you cast? Specifically, will Serpent Stance (40% global critical strike chance while wielding a staff) and Doom Cast (60% critical strike chance for spells) work on totems I summon? I guess also I wonder if generic critical strike chance (from Serpent Stance for example) is even considered a more general case of critical strike, such that it stacks with spell critical strike chance? Thanks for any info! Last bumped on Apr 21, 2016, 3:24:34 AM

Yes, it does have your crit chance. If you are affected by, say, the Haste aura, your totem will cast (or attack) faster as well.
It's you casting by proxy. |

Awesome! And do generic global critical strike chance bonuses stack with spell casting ones?
In other words, is that Serpent Stance staff keystone for melee staff users, or does it help spellcasters? And if it helps spellcasters, do Serpent Stance and Doom Cast stack? Thanks! |

Yeah, global crit chance and multiplier add into it as well. If you have a staff, you get the bonus for your spells. Unless the passive specifies melee or attacks or spells (or a specific weapon), it's for all of them.
It's why totems are so powerful, really. They are you casting with infinite mana. Increasing the speed, damage and crit makes them deadly. Last edited by Semptimilius#4676 on Jun 11, 2013, 6:01:54 PM

Wow!
And would Bloodthirst also stack with both? I had originally assumed they were melee-focused. Man that'd be amazing! Totems or no totems. Thanks! |

Yeah, that's for attacks and spells both.
You have to remember that most things have a crit chance of 4%, 5%, 6%. Adding 60% to that is just saying 5%*(1.6 + all the other increased crit chance you have). You need a number of these passives to crit consistently. (Or more power charges.) Of course, large ones like Serpent stance help. (Meaning you need a staff.) Awesome! Thanks for the help. :)
On an unrelated note, well related in the sense that it affects the character I am planning: 1) Can max level (100?) be attained within any degree of sanity? (Softcore) 2) What kind of max life total and percent are needed for a ranged spell caster in merciless? 3) What kind of elemental resistance and chaos resistance percentage are needed in merciless (from passives)? 4) What amount of mana regen and max mana percentage and total should a high level spellcaster shoot for? Sorry for the total newbie questions but I am just trying to decide whether to shoot for pie-in-the-sky or not. :) Thanks so much! |

" Serpent stance seems good, but consider that you can have 160% increased crit chance wieding white daggers ;) (yes the dagger implicit mod is global) And of course daggers can roll good spell mods as well (+dualwield block beats most(not all though) staves block chances). The only real advantage of staves would IMHO be either some unique staff or if you get a 5 or 6L... Proud 5th duelist in the Jul 1 2012 Ladder Race and in the Nov 3 2012 Solo Turbo Race :D
And even prouder 4th Templar in the Nov 10 Four-hour Party Hardcore Race :P Current OB success: top 20 Ranger in 105 Minute Turbo Solo (S4E9) |

I wanted to go staff for concept, and also because I plan to focus on fire spells and fire totems and the like, so I was thinking about trying to get a Searing Touch staff for the +2 to fire gem levels or whatever.
Of course, some of this depends on how viable/possible it is to reach max level. Does it become stupid-tedious? Or is it doable if I just wanted to have a main character goal? Thanks! |
