Are two handed weapons disadvantaged because you can use less GEMS

Are users of two handed weapons disadvantaged because they can use less gems? Most two handed weapons have only max 3 sockets. If you use two one handed weapons (or bow-up to 5 sockets) you can load up to another 3 (or more) gems. Does this bias the game in favour of always using both weapon panels as opposed to 2 handed where one panel is unusable.
Could the second panel for two handed just support GEMS with no item in the panel.
OR the item could be a drop that allowed you to use 1-4 GEMS in it ie higher quality ones have more sockets. Like the "Tapestry of Foreboding"

2-hand weapons can get up to 6 sockets, but not at low levels.

One of the more significant advantages of 2-handed weapons is more potentially linked slots.

I'd say two handed weapons have higher, harder to reach potential in sockets.

But in my opinion, they're still inferior to using a one-handed weapon and a shield, because shields not only give you sockets, but also extra enchantments.

Two handed weapons have stronger numbers on enchantments so it evens out. Also having a 6 link weapon is a lot better than 3 link weapon + 3 link offhand.

Top potential is on two handed weapons i think but they are also MUCH harder to find.

For example :

You have 1 hand and offhand
that means 4 slots each. For example you have 1 skill enhanced with 3 support gems in each.

With six linked 2 handed you could have same two skills enhanced with 4 support gems.

That is much stronger. But MUCH harder to find :)

Wrong. 1h weapons and offhands can have a max of 3 sockets. 3 + 3 = 6, the same total as 2h weapons.

2h weapons have the benefit of 6L sockets and higher overall damage than 1h weapons. However, using dual 1h weapons or 1h/offhand provides up to 8 more useful mods and more defense.
