Bow+pet build?

Just found this game and after having watched some videos and read some articles decided to try it out. One type of class I simply love playing is a ranged physical class with pet tanks, although ranged magical classes with pet tanks are also adequate.

I was therefore thinking that Shadow would be best for such a build - using bows and dex from the green tree and the minion stuff from the blue tree. Or am I way out of it? Are pets maybe complete paper tigers in this game? Or should I just go witch?

What are peoples thoughts on pet classes, and what sort of builds are viable?

I was playing a bow shadow before the patch but since they nerfed the elemental damage nodes I'm looking for a similar build.
Hope someone has a good build with summoning to share.
