[HOT TAKE] Naming Path of Exile "2", is a mistake

I respect Jonathan's vision on this game, trying to be different from PoE1, I get it ... but Naming it 2 like a sequel game, setting very high expectation, plus the game doesn't really represent an "improve" version of their prequel game in a lot of perspective beside the obvious graphics and animation improvements:

- Portal have longer animation than PoE1 that's instant
- Flask need to touch an object to refill instead of auto-refill when reaching town instantly in PoE1
- Regardless how convoluted PoE1 crafting system is ... is still offer more deterministic crafting than PoE2 does
- A lot of skill feels very restrictive to build around compared to PoE1 skills regardless they change the skill gem system to be more "flexible". Clear example would be spell totem, FYI in PoE1 casting out spell totem only cost Mana, but in PoE2 it cost mana AND endurance charge, cool idea but ... this totem-tech shout INFERIOR version of PoE1 to me.
- Death is more punishing than PoE1 which i respect that BUT, when you name it PoE2 the death penalty supposedly to be the same or better, not feel WORST than the prequel game. Like for example crafting 6mods map still have 6 portals in PoE1, not reducing them. Death penalty on campaign boss also restricting a lot of builds, can't bruteforce a lot of content like PoE1 does if you play "bad" build in the campaign.
- Flask system has been simplified A LOT, some may see it as upgrade and some may feel it loose the PoE1's charm, flask is also part of the PoE1 identity but somehow scrap the whole thing become a "tap2heal" only
- ...

etc etc you get the idea, but I see Jonathan intention, is totally different game I get it, but naming this game 2 kinda shoot themself on the foot. Could've name this game as something else beside 2 like ... Path of Soul, Awakening of Exile ,Path of Pariah or anything beside 2.

I have this perspective from Warframe with how they marketing their s̶e̶q̶u̶e̶l̶other game with different name, is the same universe but slightly different playstyle, and also in e̶a̶r̶l̶y̶ a̶c̶c̶e̶s̶s̶close beta which is almost similar situation to Path of Exile had, but they didn't name it as Warframe 2, no, they name it as Soulframe instead, which set clear expectation, is a DIFFERENT game, not a sequel, but different! Gameplay different and slowerer l̶i̶k̶e̶ P̶o̶E̶2̶ but majority of the warframe-fan didn't care about that because they already know is a **different game** just by looking at the name.

Yes Jonathan did mention Path of Exile 2 gonna be a different game too but .... do you really thing majority of the "tourist" gonna watch all the podcast or Q&A to know that Path of Exile "2" is not a sequel/upgraded version of PoE1 but a different game? Come on now ....

TL;DR: Name set expectation

Or I'm the minority here who think 2 means "similar and better" than previous product title? Feel free to change my mind, thank you.

There's a lot of people who would argue that it is "similar and better".

This is all preference.

If you like PoE1 better, then you can play PoE1.

You don't have to feel confused because PoE2 isn't PoE1 with better graphics.

They definitely made a mistake changing it up so much for the sequel as has been the case hundreds of times over the years by all these people that can't stop themselves from 'innovating'. You'd think companies would know this by now but this is yet another example that shows that they don't

Erm ... then tell me why there's many people keep comparing POE1 and PoE2, but there's little to none people comparing Warframe and Soulframe? I don't know about you but I'm tired of seeing ppl keep comparing PoE1 & PoE2, when Jonathan intention was to make a different PoE game ... just changed the name already ...

I'm sorry this game doesn't deserve to be called PoE"2". If it was during the 3.0 Fall of Oriath expansion, IMO that one deserve to be called PoE2 ... not this.

Ya agree, I do hope at some point they just give up one of the game, then merge it, going back to their "first" plan, make 4.0, different campaign route but same endgame
