Does Blackflame Covenant work with Ruzhan (Disciple of Varashta Sorceress)?

I'm trying it out now, and don't notice an increase in the dps with Ruzhan's abilities with chaos damage nodes (and also no purple color change with Ruzhan's abilities) although they are described as dealing spell damage. Is this how it is intended since Ruzhan is a minion, and not a spell even though Ruzhan does spell damage? Blackflame covenant states "Fire spells convert 100% of Fire Spell damage into Chaos Damage", but it doesn't specify if it is "your spells" or "minion spells". Thank you for any insights!
