Why are people using "Projectile Acceleration III" without any projectile speed in the tree?

I do not understand this, looking on the top players on Poe Ninja, most if not all are using "Projectile Acceleration III" support on their Oil Barrage but i do not see any projectile speed nodes in their tree or gear peaces.
Projectile Acceleration III "Increases and reductions to Projectile speed also apply to Projectile Damage with Supported Skills Supported Skills have 40% more Projectile Speed" What am i missing, are they really just wasting a slot? This can't be right they are top players with hundreds of divines invested in their gear. Is there any bugged interaction i'm not getting? Last bumped on Dec 31, 2025, 12:25:00 PM

It's mostly for this 40% projectile speed, but it has synergy with shrine.

If this is "more" projectile speed, and the gem makes all speed apply to projectile damage, then 40% "more" projectile damage is also baked into this gem as well?
