Character committing Suicide - Witch (occultist)

I am running a life cost based occultist build. Do character die if the character has 2000 life remaining out of 20000 and the skill cost is 4000?

In POE 2, using the skill will be blocked if we don't have the cost for it. Is it not in POE 1? I am new to POE 1.

Also, i am increasing my life cost using Witchmark runecraft, and Unlight silhouette (king in the mist ascendancy).
