Why make such huge maps?
|
As an example, this is Khari Corssing:
![]() Lets be honest, do we really need maps to be this big? Even with sprinting it takes forever to cross the map and find where you need to go. The map overlay isn't even big enough to show the entire thing! I can see there's a huge battle between PoE 1 and PoE 2 enjoyers in the forums, but I do believe NO ONE likes these huge maps, they are the worst. Shrinking the already existing big maps and avoiding creating this kind of maps in the future acts would really go well with the entire player base. They should add a way to teleport from anywhere on the map to a checkpoint. Instead of having to run to a checkpoint.
And also optimize the checkpoints. I personally love the larger map sizes. My issue is the lack of emergent gameplay once you've cleared a portion of the map. If I go back, it'd be great if something had a chance of being there or showing up to present an additional challenge. |

Made a post about it a few days ago too. Yes, I do believe there's no one who likes them as well
In the end game I wouldn't mind maps being bigger if there wasn't so much clutter around. You run for 2 meters and there's a random tree root or little rock to stop you for no reason, or tight spaces in a maze-like design In campaign there's no excuse. Act 3 maps are still way too big and act 4 are even worse. The maps themselves on act 4 are cool, but way too long, cutting them by idk 80% would probably still make them big |

They've spent a lot of time and effort deshittifing act 1 to 3 maps and completely ignored all lessons from this for act 4
It's almost impressive how often GGG makes the same mistakes |

Yeah, act 4 is too big. I like the maps but the desert crossing for example is way too repetitive and samey. It should be cut by around half and filled in with more bosses, and more distinct locations. Like add an illusory oasis, some dunes, rock formations, cliffs, etc. to diversify the appearance a bit.

" Act 4 was amazing! But the size of the maps and the amount of dead ends are annoying and get old really fast. As people play them over and over for alts and new leagues the novelty will wear off and the incovenience of big maps and dead ends will get worse and worse. That's why I think focusing on smaller maps and less dead ends will be an overall good thing |

" I like both games. I don't enjoy big maps though. I oftentimes don't get a lot of time to play in a session and don't like having to redo zones. I eventually quit last league because endgame mapping just took too long (not playing meta). | |

Yeah, this is almost a bigger issue than the skill/build balance, in my opinion. The zones simply don't have enough interesting, distinct content pieces going on in them to justify their size. They don't even have enough white mobs in them to justify their size, for that matter.
