Explaine +1 poisons to me

I'm doing a resonating shield poison build and am currently testing out chaos and the +1 poison, but i can't put my finger to what the +1 Poison does exactly.
it's hard to test because i have to hit enemies atleast 2x + poison chance is making it harder. If someone could tell me what the benefit and con is of +1 to poison. Because as of now i'm not sure if it's worth it. Last bumped on Aug 3, 2025, 5:51:35 AM

By default, you can have only 1 ACTIVE poison on enemy. If you poison already poisoned target, it wont get 2 active poisons (each hit creates separate poison stack, it doesnt add up). Only the most potent poison is dealing damage. +x poison allows more than single stack to deal damage.

" Aah i see, so it should be quite good than if you have multiple poison sources. It should be good to apply to my build then later on in the game, because i don't think the damage mitigation (magnitude to be precise) is worth that extra stack early game. |

" I would say +poison stack is the most important thing for poison build at current state of game. So you eaither go for infinite (splinter) or you have to play pathfinder and pick all +poison skill nodes. Otherwise i wouldnt rly call it poison build as single poison stack doesnt do that much damage. Magnitude is not mitigation, its damage scaling. |

" Im using pathfinder. i know what magnitude is, i was referring to support gems that give more poison stacks but less duration. or less damage but more magnitude. so usually it's kind of a trade off, because poison damage is procd on the initial hit. |

the first +1 you get is basically 100% more damage on prolonged fights

" yeah i now have +2 on all poison stacks, meaning im at 3 stacks now and can get to 4 and 5 with a support gem. it does a lot more damage now, especially with Chaos nodes. |

" Chaos damage nodes doesnt directly affect poison. It affect chaos damage of hit, but not poison itself. |
