Mark of Submission + Doedre ring don't work on Merc?

I gave my Bladefall merc those two rings to curse Punishment and I am not seeing the curse. I do not curse myself. Why is that?

Mark of Submission with socketed Punishment? Mercenaries can only use their own skills.

But the item states that target get curse on hit with the socketed curse.. so merc does not need to use the skill. :(
Having same problem, thought it is going to work and it does not.. just with different curse. |
