The Recombinator is an unfunny joke.

Seriously, whose idea was this thing? It's absolutely terrible. I've done some research & apparently this was supposed to help subside some of the struggles of crafting but In my opinion It just highlights the poor place crafting is in currently. I'm not against the idea of a gamble, This whole game is basically a slot machine but man the recombinator has to be the biggest steaming pile I've tried to interact with. Incredibly low rates of success & destroys the item upon an already low success rate. It just feels like someones idea of a morbid joke. For example, I would say I'm at endgame so most mods on my gear I need to have a high tier otherwise they're useless. I have learned that at my level to try to recombine anything more than 2 mods is basically admitting I want my gear to get destroyed. So I usually only recom 2 mods. It's usually at a success rate of 20%. I've done this with countless pieces of gear & not a single one was successful. It just really begs what's the point of this thing? I can't even influence the rate of success with other materials. It's just slam & pray, as usual. I don't know if anyone has had better success than me with this system but man from my impressions the best thing I can say about the recombinator is that it's Ass.



Take this with a grain of salt I guess since it's only meant to be a minor system but man, what a major letdown for something so minor{ironic}.

Recombinator ? Oh you mean the item smashing device.
Feels like I'm heading to the scrap yard everytime I place my items in it lol
I tried using it twice, picking one mod from each item. They both failed and I don't think I will interact with this feature again unless something is changed about it.

In my experience even selecting only 2 affixes have a low success rate, it says something like 45~60% chance but it feels like its waay lower than that
It's encouraging players to slow down, pick up loot and keep it if it has one good modifier that you'd like to try to combine. It also encourages you to do expeditions. Even if you only select one modifier from each item, the success rate goes down depending on the tier and rarity and the modifier. It's highly unlikely that someone is going to recombine "+6 to skills" and "+100% increased damage" on the first try. But if you pick up the scrap gear and gather the artifacts to do it, maybe 10 times, you've got a pretty good shot at crafting yourself a useable weapon.

For me, it's been a game changer. But I also don't speed through maps, I pick up everything. For players who zoom through maps, I can see it being more on the useless side.

It's strange, i actually grind just maps, alot of maps, as i do enjoy my warrior's over all combat, BUT...

I pretty much don't bother with any of these dumb fucking mechanics they added for maps, from Ritual, Breach, Expedition, to even that no good garbage wisp. I just don't bother anymore with any of it. It's all trash imo. Over and over the ritual rewards are nothing more then augmentation and transmutation orbs, while Expedition doesn't seem to drop shit ever, just offers ridiculous OP mobs compared to anything else in map, Breach doesn't do shit it seems but toss ya a few splinters, and again, heres a mechanic relying on speed... in this game?

I will hit delirium as its 'already there and no real anything...'.

But yea, all the gimmicky crap, the refroge bench being no exception, soooooo many heavy handed downsides to everything. Not sure what the hell GGG trying to sell to a major market here, but its not gonna happen.

Maybe next patch we see a little good. We'll see.

I'd rather try to get lucky with chaos spamming.

I guess I would also use the item smasher to try to save one good mod over to a cleaner base if I've failed to fracture it, if I really want the fracture but other than that I'd just go with the good old chaos orb. It's pretty clunky to use as well, not even being able to fetch the currencies directly from your stash.
Poe 1's recombinator was pretty fun, but in poe 2 I just don't like it, at all.

And if it is succeeded, it isn't 100% sure of what item you'll get!
in POE 1 it could give you something other than you want, but it would never destroy the item... which means it was likely still usable for a 2nd recombination.


GGG destroyed it for no reason other than to be dicks.
