Feedback - Need an ultra low graphics mode for Steam Deck
I typically play on my PC, but I occasionally want to play on Deck, like when I'm taking my kids to appointments and I have an hour to kill while I'm out and about.
Even when I lower all of the performance options as low as they'll go, I still experience some pretty bad stutters, some invisible enemies and AOEs, and plenty of lag. My expectations for Deck performance are pretty low, I get that its a very low power device, but if it can run Elden Ring at 60 fps 720p, then I think most games should be playable. I would say poe2 isn't quite playable in its current state. I have 2 brothers who even bought new PCs just to play this game. My assumption is that it has a lot to do with particles and physics. Even at the lowest graphics settings there's still a lot going on. So it might be nice to have an option to turn it all off. My more extreme suggestion is to just make a low polygon, low res, low particle mode. Just cut out a lot of the textures and shapes and layers, and go for minimalism. I actually think there are plenty of people out there would would prefer to play like that, especially people with vision impairment who struggle to see what's going on in the first place. This could even be an accessibility mode so that the player and enemies stand out more against the background. This game is gorgeous, so I still want to play high res on my PC. But I think a low graphics mode or even an ultra minimalist mode would be a welcome addition to the game. Love the game, keep it up GGG. Don't let the haters get you down. 0.2.h has been a great experience for me, and I'm excited about the 0.2.1 patch notes. Last bumped on May 23, 2025, 3:40:11 PM

Hopefully the upcoming patch helps you out. It would be sweet to have a low gfx setting, but secretly I am more excited for getting a new gfx card (one day) and playing at 4k max gfx at 120 Hz.... In 20 years haha

" +1 There's multiple ways to improve performance, let us disable the dynamic shadows, bake them as textures or something, cut down the fancy physics or particles like from frozen enemies exploding, i'm playing a lightning spear build with freezing herald of thunder and i can see the load on both cpu and gpu doubling the moment i kill a big pack of monsters, and my pc is in the recommended settings for the game with graphics set to low, this shouldn't be happening at all tbh A game with a fixed camera like poe should be running at 40~60 fps on the steam deck, idk how they didn't set that as a goal with how popular gaming handhelds are nowadays Last edited by Vyend#2601 on May 23, 2025, 2:36:38 PM

" It's literally unbelievable, honestly. Yes, the game is visualy, one hell of a treat, but that particle count, is absolutely absurd in that they have given no control over it. Looking at you my precious totems... holy shit, too much is too much. I would go so far to say, that i dont believe this is really just for steam decks, or other type toys, but just general good practice for all users when pushing this level of effects. Give us some control please. GGG - Why you no? Last edited by JoannaDark#6252 on May 23, 2025, 3:09:45 PM

I am not completely sure. I've tweaked the settings quite a bit following stuff I found on reddit. And for the most part, the game performs okay (but it gets quite pixelated some times). HOWEVER, some certain specific situations make it unbearable. It's some maps, like the Chaos Temple. But it's also when there are a lot of monsters on screen.
I saw the preview for 0.2.1 and since then I can't stop thinking of those monsters physics are a big factor contributing to bad performance on Deck. |
